Confusion spread across the NFL world on Friday after Rashan Gary appeared to signal a potential departure from the Green Bay Packers. The pass rusher posted a heartfelt farewell message on his Instagram page, appreciating the Green Bay community for the support.

Within minutes, the post went viral online, promoting a series of reactions from the Packers fanbase. Many feared the team was set to lose one of its defensive cornerstones. However, the post was deleted by Gary less than an hour later, leading to further curiosity among fans.

However, Adam Schefter, who earlier posted Rashan Gary’s farewell message on X, stepped in to clarify the situation amid the frenzy it had created. After getting information from his Packers sources, the ESPN insider noted that the defensive end’s future lies with the team.

“Packers edge Rashan Gary has not been released at this time,” Schefter wrote. “No definitive action has been taken. All options still remain on the table, including a potential trade.”

Nonetheless, Rashan Gary represents one of the Packers’ most immediate paths to creating significant cap space in 2026 without pushing money into future years. He’s scheduled to count $18 million against the cap next season after ranking among the NFL’s least effective edge rushers in generating pressure during the 2025 campaign.

What Rashan Gary wrote in his farewell message

Rashan Gary’s short but well-crafted message was convincing despite no words from the team. This is because it came just a day after the Packers got under the salary cap, meaning they can’t make any further moves until after the draft. The pass rusher appreciated everyone for the support as he insinuated the chapter is over.

“When I got the call in 2019, it was one of the greatest moments of my life, and it always will be,” Gary wrote. “The opportunity to represent Green Bay and Packers Nation across the country and around the world is something I will never forget.

“Like all chapters in life, this one has come to an end. I want to thank everyone who supported me and my family throughout the years. The love, the energy, and the memories mean more than words can explain. On to my next stop — nowhere near done yet. All 6’5”, 275…can’t wait.”

The latest narrative circulating online is that Gary’s accounts were hacked, both his Instagram and X simultaneously. That said, a lot of fans are skeptical about that narrative and aren’t entirely convinced by the hacking explanation.
