Viktor Hovland makes a comment on his driving after shooting 67 on day three at Bay Hill

Viktor Hovland was back in form on day three of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, as he posted a round of 67 at Bay Hill on Saturday.

Hovland has struggled terribly with his form over the past two years but he showed some seriously positive signs at Bay Hill on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Norwegian is now right in the mix to achieve a top-10 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and if he manages that, it would be a sign of genuine progress.

What do you think about Luke Donald’s appointment?

Is this good or bad news for Europe?

While Hovland did win on the PGA Tour in 2025, he was a long way off his best form, and he has been for quite some time now.

Hovland suggested that he was very happy with his swing at the start of the 2026 season, but he has still been struggling with his driver.

And he has suffered with the same problem yet again this week in Orlando.

Viktor Hovland comments on his driving after shooting 67 at Bay Hill

Hovland is ranked 139th in strokes gained off the tee this season, while he is ranked 17th in strokes gained approach.

So it’s obvious to see what part of the game is causing the seven-time PGA Tour winner so many problems right now.

He was ranked 43rd in strokes gained off the tee on round three at Bay Hill, despite shooting a 67.

Hovland lost 0.805 strokes to the field off the tee and after his round, he responded when asked to sum up his game right now.

Very happy with the score, Hovland admitted.

5-under out there is always pretty good. Especially those greens were really baked out before all the rain came.

But, yeah, I scored really well. I putted awesome. Still not driving it all that great, so super happy with 5-under.

The good news for Hovland is that he gained just over five strokes on the field on the greens, so if he can improve his driving, a really low score could be lying in wait.

Viktor Hovland comments on progress with his new coach

Earlier this week, it was announced that Hovland had split with his swing coach Grant Waite and reunited with T.J. Yeaton.

After his third round at Bay Hill on Saturday, Hovland responded when asked if he has made any progress yet with Yeaton.

Who do you think wins the API this week?

The PGA Tour’s best players will be in action at Bay Hill…

Still a little bit early to say, the Norwegian admitted.

I would say a lot of my iron game is pretty solid. Swinging it well with the irons.

It’s just, as soon as I get my driver in my hands it’s just not working. So we’re still trying to figure that out.

But we’re definitely on the right track, it’s just hard to do it in the middle of a tournament.

Hovland is still an elite iron player but the problems he is experiencing with his driver continue to bamboozle him.

If he manages to find a way to get the ball in play off the tee, it surely won’t be too long before he returns to the winners’ circle.
