Ludvig Aberg leads The Players Championship after two rounds while Si Woo Kim made the cut with just one shot to spare.
Aberg and Si Woo Kim were left to play as a twosome at The Players Championship this week, after Collin Morikawa was unfortunately forced to withdraw after just one hole of his first round due to a back problem.
Playing in a twosome is always painfully slow on the PGA Tour, with long waits on tees and in the fairways commonplace.
However, the 26-year-old from Sweden did not let the slow play bother him one little bit.
Aberg posted a scintillating round of 63 on day two of The Players Championship to end up at 12-under-par for the tournament after 36 holes.
He will head into the third round on Saturday with a two-shot lead over Xander Schauffele.
However, it wasn’t quite as smooth sailing for Si Woo on Friday at TPC Sawgrass.
Ludvig Aberg says how he found playing alongside Si Woo Kim at The Players
Aberg was obviously delighted with his round of 63 at Sawgrass on Friday.
The talented Swede made six birdies, two eagles, a solitary bogey and nine pars during his second round.
After his round, he was asked how he found playing with Si Woo Kim during the first two rounds of The Players.
“Yeah, Si Woo is a fun player,“ Aberg said.
“He’s fun to watch. He hit some shots both today and yesterday where I’m like, that’s pretty cool.
“Yeah, he ended up making a number on 17, which wasn’t great. But great up-and-down on 18 to potentially make the cut.
“Yeah, that’s what’s fun about golf sometimes. You’re trying to win tournaments, but you’re also trying to make the weekend. Yeah, he’s a fun player to play with.“
If Aberg was impressed by Si Woo Kim, Lord only knows what the South Korean thought of the Swede’s game!
Ludvig Aberg stats on day two at The Players
Aberg gained a remarkable 9.385 strokes on the field in total on day two at TPC Sawgrass.
He ranked 10th in strokes gained off the tee and 1st in strokes gained approach.
Aberg ranked 13th in both strokes gained around the green and strokes gained putting.
His all-round game is clearly in superb shape right now.
It seems like Aberg is now ready to win one of the very biggest and most prestigious tournaments on the golfing calendar.
Will he step up to the plate on Saturday and Sunday and get the job done?
Only time will tell in that regard.
