Justin Thomas shares ‘very proud’ reaction after top-10 finish at The Players Championship

Justin Thomas enjoyed an encouraging week at The Players Championship, finishing tied eighth at eight-under-par at TPC Sawgrass.

The American ended the tournament five shots behind the winner, Cameron Young, after producing a much stronger performance than the week before.

It was only Thomas’s second event since returning from injury, making the result particularly pleasing after he missed the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a rusty display.

After the tournament, Thomas admitted he was proud of the progress he had made since undergoing surgery.

Sky Sports' Rob Lee says Thomas was a 'class above' the rest of the field as the American came back from a seven-shot deficit to win his second major at the PGA Championship

Justin Thomas proud of Players Championship performance

Thomas reflected positively on his week at TPC Sawgrass, highlighting how significant it was to be back competing near the top of the leaderboard.

The former PGA Championship winner revealed that the tournament came exactly four months after his surgery, which made his performance even more satisfying.

“Solid week here at The Players, always an amazing experience,” Thomas said.

“With this past Friday being four months post-surgery, I’m very proud of myself for being back in contention again. Huge congrats to Cam on the win, very well deserved!”

Justin Thomas now targeting quick reset before the Valspar Championship

Despite the strong showing at The Players Championship, Thomas admitted he still wants to sharpen parts of his game.

The American is now preparing for the Valspar Championship, one of the next stops on the PGA Tour schedule.

“Time to sharpen up a few things and do a quick reset before hitting one of my favorite courses of the year,” he added. “On to the Valspar Championship.”

After a difficult return at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Thomas’ performance at The Players indicates his form is moving in the right direction as he continues his comeback.
