Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle will be playing for a new team this upcoming season. On Monday, the Miami Dolphins traded him and a 2026 fourth-rounder to the Denver Broncos for a first-round, third-round and a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft.

Following his addition to the team, there have been questions about whether he would take over as the team’s WR1 in place of Courtland Sutton. However, according to a tweet by Broncos reporter Luca Evans, Waddle has shrugged off such narratives while focusing on being useful for his new team.

“Jaylen Waddle shrugged off any idea he’s now the #Broncos NO.1 WR. ‘I Think everyone’s here to make plays, and to try to win.’ Said he thinks it’ll be a ‘fun group’ at WR. ‘They got a lottal talent. Court, Marv, Troy, Pat, Lil’ Jordan. I’m here to help in every fashion,’ Evans wrote.

The Broncos drafted Courtland Sutton with the 40th pick in 2018. He established himself as a key player on the offense, earning Pro Bowl honors twice.

Last season, he led the team’s wideout corps with 1,017 yards on 74 receptions and seven touchdowns. The Broncos qualified for the playoffs but lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game. In July, Sutton agreed to a four-year extension worth $92 million.

Meanwhile, Jaylen Waddle began his NFL journey with the Dolphins in 2021 (sixth pick). He has been consistent with his performance, recording 5,039 yards on 373 receptions and 26 touchdowns in five seasons.

In 2024, the Dolphins picked up the fifth-year option on Waddle’s contract before agreeing to a three-year, $84.75 million extension. However, the team has failed to make the playoffs in the past two seasons.

Jaylen Waddle shares his thoughts on playing for Sean Payton and the Broncos

The Denver Broncos have been improving each year under coach Sean Payton’s guidance. Thus, there are a lot of expectations surrounding them to once again compete for the Super Bowl this upcoming season.

During his introductory press conference on Wednesday, Jaylen Waddle shared his thoughts on becoming a part of this Broncos era.

“It’s exciting, … just playing with great players,” Waddle said as per the team’s website. “Everyone is talking about how great and close the team is. I’m excited to be around the guys, get to know them, and they get to know me and go from there.

“It’s definitely new beginnings. I just look at it as a new opportunity to go out there with a new team in a great place, play along great talent and help out as best I can.”

Can the Broncos make another playoff run in their third year under Sean Payton?
