“Goddamnit!”: Tom Brady channels inner Bill Belichick while teaching Jimmy Fallon how to throw football

Tom Brady was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night. The legendary quarterback attempted to teach Fallon how to throw a football, creating an interesting exchange between the two, where Brady was practically a coach.

“Let me teach you what not to do first,” Brady said as he put on a throwing gesture. “And what most people do wrong when they throw a football. So, they try to generate the power to put on the ball with their upper bodies. So, if I’m throwing right here at the camera, they open their left shoulder and their head. And guess where the energy is going? Toward that beautiful band over there.

So, where you really want the energy going is straight ahead at the camera,” Brady continued. “So, instead of opening your left shoulder when you start, just close your left shoulder and then rotate your body and throw. But you’ve got to be nice and relaxed.”

Fallon went on to practice, throwing a perfect pass to Tom Brady, who effortlessly made a catch. The show host acknowledged Brady with a “Thank you, Coach,” after the latter showed him a throwing technique, prompting a Bill Belichick reference from him.

“You want to be like Bill Belichick, ‘Goddammit, Jimmy.’”

Fallon is not likely to become an expert ball passer based on a brief training session with Brady. However, having a legend of Brady’s status teach you a football skill is not an experience many people can pass on.

Tom Brady discusses how he disguises to his children’s games

Enjoying a quiet private life is one of the challenges of being a superstar. Beyond his exploit on the gridiron, Tom Brady is a father to three children: daughter Vivian, 13, and sons Benjamin, 16, and Jack, 18.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion shared how he has coped with this when showing up for his children’s sporting events and dealing with people’s attention.

“I’m probably pretty irritating to them,” he said. “They want me to stand outside the arena when they’re playing. They’re like, ‘Dad, don’t come in here.’

“But I love watching them play,” he continued. “I always kind of, especially when I go to the opposing school, [wear] the hat, hoodie, [and go] as far down, as far away from every other parent. Because you just want the attention focused on the kids.”

Tom Brady has pivoted to the business world since his retirement in 2022. He owns minority stakes in the Las Vegas Raiders in the NFL and the WNBA team Las Vegas Aces.
