General manager Andrew Berry is in charge of finding the next Cleveland Browns’ coach following the firing of Kevin Stefanski. The two-time NFL Coach of the Year was shown the exit door by the Browns after failing to reach the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.

With the names the Browns have interviewed for the head coaching vacancy so far, it appears they are not threading the same path as other teams looking to fill the same position. Berry outlines the vision for hiring the next coach, in which the goal is to get a tailored solution.

“We’ll be looking for something different than maybe some of the other openings have based on, where they are as a team,” Berry said via Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. “And some good coaches will fit us, but they won’t fit the Titans.

“Some will fit the Giants, and they won’t necessarily fit us. But we’re looking for the right leader and the right partner for our present situation. And I have a lot of confidence that we’ll be able to find that person.”

This week, the coaching search team led by Andrew Berry has interviewed the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator, Dan Pitcher, Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator, Aden Durde and Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator, Todd Monken. The Browns have also interviewed their two coordinators, Tommy Rees and Jim Schwartz.

Andrew Berry explains the decision to fire Kevin Stefanski

In his media availability following the firing of Kevin Stefanski, Andrew Berry explained the decision to part ways with the coach to reporters. Despite his success at the franchise, the general manager pointed out where they feel the team hasn’t made enough leap forward.

“Many of you have heard me say that Kevin’s like family; there really isn’t a better person. He’s the best of us,” Berry said. “We all owe him a debt of gratitude and appreciation for the level of success that he brought the organization, that really hadn’t been achieved since 2002. And that’s something that we’ll always remember.

“Coming into this season, we were realistic that we were a team and a roster in transition. And ultimately, this decision is born from the fact that we ultimately felt like we did not see enough progress in areas that were controllable, independent of certain game outcomes.”

Andrew Berry has been under fire among the Browns’ fans for a couple of decisions he’s made over the years, including signing Deshaun Watson on a huge paycheck. Many fans are not trusting his lead to find the next coach of the team, which he’s currently spearheading.
