Billy Horschel has offered his take on the rumored changes to the PGA Tour schedule, giving his view on how it could impact players. According to Golf Digest, the Tour is considering a major overhaul that could reduce the number of events to 20–22 by 2027. Tournaments on the Hawaii swing, Torrey Pines and several West Coast events could be removed.

PGA National Resort and Innisbrook are also reportedly at risk, and one of the two Texas events might be cut. The Tour is considering adding new events in metro cities, while the Fall portion of the schedule would remain separate.

Speaking on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, Billy Horschel said he believes the Tour will continue to provide opportunities for players even if the schedule is shortened.

“I can only speak on what I believe the PGA Tour should look like, and I truly believe that we should still have opportunities…Instead of shooting 69, you’re going to have to shoot 66 now. I mean, simple, you know, just you’re going to have to play better golf to get to the PGA Tour, and there’s nothing wrong with that. In my opinion, it just makes it a stronger product when you do get out there,” he said. (0:50 onwards)

Horschel, who has been sidelined due to injury, said he hasn’t been involved in planning but stressed that players should still have a chance to earn a spot. He added that the changes would simply mean that consistent performance over a longer period will be more important than ever.

The potential reduction in events comes after Strategic Sports Group invested $1.5 billion into the Tour. The four majors are not counted as part of the 20–22 events. Officials are reportedly looking to use the changes to improve the overall flow of the season while giving players more rest between major tournaments.
