Brandel Chamblee made a mistake with Tiger Woods he promises he won’t repeat with Scottie Scheffler

It is not exactly a hot take to say that Scottie Scheffler is the most dominant golfer the game has seen since Tiger Woods was at the peak of his powers.

Scottie Scheffler secured his 20th PGA Tour victory at The American Express at the start of the 2026 season. Meanwhile, he already has four major titles under his belt.

Who do you think will win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am?

Will Rory McIlroy stop Scottie Scheffler and retain his title at the first signature event of the season?

His performance at the WM Phoenix Open this past week was almost more ominous than his win at La Quinta. Scheffler bounced back from an opening 73 to finish one shot off making the playoff at TPC Scottsdale.

The world number one looked to be nowhere near his best in Arizona.

The mistake Brandel Chamblee made with Tiger Woods he plans to avoid with Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler holding all four major titles at the same time now seems even more likely than the 29-year-old going an entire year without winning any of the four biggest events.

Unsurprisingly, Brandel Chamblee has put Scheffler on a similar level to Tiger Woods. Of course, Scheffler has a long way to go to catch Woods’ tallies. But no one is better equipped than him.

And speaking to the Sky Sports Golf Podcast, Chamblee suggested that he made an error during Woods’ time at the top that he plans to rectify now that Scheffler has come along.

“All I know is I played against Tiger. I started doing TV in 2003, 2004, so I played against Tiger at his best. It wasn’t like I was going up against him, I played with him a couple of times, but I was able to watch it up close. And now as an announcer, I watched it. I’m not sure I fully appreciated what I was looking at,” he said.

“It just happens. Yeah, he’s going to win, he’s unbelievable. It just went by in a blur. Now then, I’m looking at Scottie, no, no, no, I want to fully appreciate what I’m watching. It’s not that I didn’t lean in with Tiger, but I’m like this is historically so rare. With Tiger I think we almost just took it for granted, and I’d love to go back now and watch Tiger Woods again, because I feel like we took it for granted. Hopefully I’ll live for 30 to 40 years, I want to say we’ll never see this again, but we said that after Tiger and here comes Scottie.”

Chamblee predicts what Scheffler will achieve during the 2026 season

The only question surrounding Scheffler now seems to be how long he can continue to play at this level for.

At his current pace, he is clearly going to put himself alongside the likes of Woods and Jack Nicklaus. But it is hard to believe that there is even more to come from him.

Is Scottie Scheffler more likely to end up with 50 PGA Tour wins and 10 majors or 25 wins and 5 majors?

Have we already seen the best of Scottie Scheffler?

However, Chamblee went on to suggest that he could see Scheffler becoming only the fourth man to reach double figures for major wins.

“There was nobody that dominated the game like Tom Watson until Tiger came along. Yeah, there were the Norman’s, and the Price’s, and the Faldo’s who had their runs in there, but they didn’t dominate the way Watson did, and obviously didn’t dominate the way Nicklaus did. Then Tiger came along,” he said.

“‘We’re never going to see that again’, and here comes Scottie. It would not surprise me if Scottie completed the Career Grand Slam this year. He’ll be the seventh person to win all four majors. I’ve said that getting to 10 major championships in this era is a bar to me analogous to batting .400 in baseball over here. I just don’t think it’s possible, because the fields are deeper. But when I said that, I couldn’t have imagined a player like Scottie Scheffler.”

Scheffler’s 2025 season got off to a rocky start due to the hand injury he suffered over Christmas. Nevertheless, he went on to win two major titles.

So it felt significant that he won in January for the first time in his career last month. With that, his 2026 season could provide a real clue as to where his ceiling could truly be.
