Camila Giorgi laughs off tax evasion & unpaid rent, stolen items accusations

Camila Giorgi is breaking her silence on two shocking accusations she faced last year as the former Italian tennis star strongly rejects the allegations that she stole items from a rented house in Italy and left her country to avoid tax evasion.

Last year, Giorgi pulled off one of the most stunning retirements from pro tennis. After losing to Iga Swiatek in the Miami second round in late March, the former world No. 26 didn’t appear in any tournaments during April. Then, one day in May, fans noticed her name being removed from the ITIA’s doping testing pool – which meant that she retired and there would be no need for the doping authorities to seek her for any testing.

As if Giorgi’s silent retirement wasn’t stunning enough, reports came out alleging that she fled Italy to avoid paying 446k euros to the Italian tax authorities.

“It was not an escape. I moved to America permanently with my parents,” the former four-time WTA champion said on Italian chat show Verissimo after returning to Italy and attending last weekend’s 82nd Venice International Film Festival.

Giorgi denies ever avoiding the tax authorities but confirms some problems happened.

“The problems with the tax authorities? My family did not know about them. They were created by outside people who managed me and did this as a job. We did not flee for tax reasons. I never fled, I never spoke,” the 33-year-old added.

Giorgi denies a shocking rented home accusation against her family

After the tax evasion claims were made against Giorgi, a villa owner in Tuscany accused the former Italian tennis star of leaving the apartment without paying him rent. Not only that, but the landlord also alleged that the former WTA player and her family took some valuable and luxurious items with them, making the estimated damage between 50k-100k euros.

Since retiring from pro tennis, Giorgi has been working as a lingerie model.
