After Ukrainian Tennis reached out to Yastremska for a comment, the 25-year-old revealed that she hasn’t felt well for a couple of days and that she has been taking antibiotics, which led to “a severe intoxication.” In the same message, the Ukrainian tennis player said she even considering not playing in Cincinnati at all but still gave a shot to the Viktoriya Tomova match, which she won in three sets.
Yatremska: I’ve been taking strong antibiotics, which have caused a severe intoxication
“For the past few days, I’ve been taking strong antibiotics, which have caused severe intoxication. I even considered skipping my previous match, but I was hoping it would pass. However, under physical exertion my heart rate spikes and I feel extremely weak. During the match against Tomova, I felt really unwell – my heart was just racing… Yesterday I didn’t practice at all, and together with my doctors we decided not to risk my health. For now, I’ll take a few days off from training, and then I’ll start preparing for the US Open,” the world No. 31 said in a statement to Ukrainian Tennis.
In the Cincinnati round-of-16, Gauff plays against the winner of the match between Jelena Ostapenko and Lucia Bronzetti.
