Daniil Medvedev had no interest in sugarcoating anything following another disappointing loss in 2025 as the 2021 US Open winner admitted that he finds some of his results as “shameful” and “annoying.”
When the Russian reached the Halle final in late June and came a win away from winning his first title in two years, he appeared to be turning the page. But then, the 29-year-old fell short to Alexander Bublik in the final and returned to losing early, just like earlier this year.
At the ongoing Cincinnati Masters, Medvedev’s year hit a new low after he allowed world No. 85 Adam Walton to come back from a set down in their match and win 6-7 (0) 6-4 6-1. A month earlier, the Russian also exited Wimbledon after only one match played.
Overall, the former world No. 1 – who was one of the most consistent players and a regular top-10 member for years – is a mere 26-17 in 2025 and has dropped down to No. 15 in the world.
Medvedev on his 2025 struggles: It’s shame, it’s annoying…
“It’s a shame, it’s annoying… Tough time for me but such is tennis, all you can do is keep trying to find a way. I haven’t found one yet,” the former world No. 1 said.
The 2024 season wasn’t great for Medvedev either. However, the 29-year-old remained optimistic throughout it and vowed to do his best to regain his best level in 2025. Sadly for the Russian, not only has it not happened so far, but the feeling is that he has further regressed in his game.
Medvedev has never been one to quit but it is evident that he has a hard time finding a way out of his slump.
