Wide receiver Deebo Samuel’s future with the Washington Commanders remains shrouded in mystery. He became an unrestricted free agent after his contract was voided earlier this month.

On Thursday’s episode of the “Down 2 Business” podcast, Samuel was questioned about his future in the NFL. The wide receiver provided a vague answer.

“I don’t know bro, we’ll see how it goes,” Samuel said.

When asked what the Commanders plan for the upcoming season, he reminded about his free agent status.

“Bro, I’m a free agent. So we’re gonna see what’s going on.”

Deebo Samuel started his NFL journey with the San Francisco 49ers after they drafted him with the 36th overall pick in 2019. In six seasons, he recorded 4,792 yards on 334 receptions and 22 touchdowns.

The wide receiver agreed to a three-year extension worth $73.5 million in 2022. However, in March, Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round 2025 pick.

He played in 16 games and recorded 727 yards on 72 receptions and five touchdowns. The Commanders finished third in the NFC East with a 5-12 record, failing to qualify for the playoffs.

On Wednesday, general manager John Lynch revealed his plans to upgrade the WRs room for the upcoming season. This led to speculations that the team is planning to retain Deebo Samuel for another year.

“We’ve got opportunities to improve ourselves by either bringing back some of the players that have been with us, or finding new guys that fit who we want to be and what we want to be, both in free agency and in the draft,” Lynch said.

Deebo Samuel opens up about his ‘welcome to the NFL’ moment

Apart from free agency, Deebo Samuel also talked about other topics on the “Down 2 Business” podcast. During this interview, he talked about his “Welcome to the NFL” moment during his rookie campaign in 2019.

“A coach walk into the meeting, and you know, you in the meeting full of everybody. And he only talk to you for 30 minutes,” Samuel said. “You don’t really know how fast the pace is. I’m out there like, going in motion, cooling. He’s like, ‘See, this is the dumb s**t I’m talking about.’

“Kyle (Shanahan) showed clip after clip. I’m like, is he going to talk about somebody else. He made the whole team meeting about one person. And I was just sitting there like, damn.”

Will the Commanders provide a new contract extension to Deebo Samuel for the upcoming season?
