Laurie Canter has explained why he chose LIV Golf over the PGA Tour, saying the decision was driven more by lifestyle and family rather than golf alone. Even after earning a PGA Tour card for 2026, the Englishman said relocating to the United States did not fit where he is in life right now.

Speaking about his choice, Laurie Canter admitted that while the PGA Tour remains the highest level of professional golf, the travel demands were a major concern.

“The PGA Tour schedule is still probably the pinnacle of tour golf but, truthfully, I enjoy playing in Europe and I’m still passionate about playing events on the DP World Tour,” he said. (via The Sunday Times)

Canter added that moving his family to the U.S. was not something he wanted to do.

“If you’re going out to play on the PGA Tour and you can live in America, that’s obviously achievable but, at this point, I don’t want a life like that. My family is happy and settled where they are. Travelling back and forth to America 30 weeks of the year isn’t sustainable.”

Laurie Canter joined LIV Golf in 2022 and spent two seasons in the league, where he reportedly earned close to £5 million. Since then, he has rebuilt his career on the DP World Tour, winning twice in nine months and making his first appearances at The Players Championship and the Masters.

LIV Golf confirmed Laurie Canter’s return earlier this month, with the Englishman set to rejoin the league ahead of the 2026 season. The move came after a strong run on the DP World Tour, where Canter won three times over the past two seasons and climbed into the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time. His form also put him in Ryder Cup discussions and helped him finish inside the top 10 of the Race to Dubai standings. During that run, Canter also earned his first PGA Tour card but chose not to pursue dual membership.

Laurie Canter previously played in LIV Golf’s debut event at Centurion Club in 2022 and later made 20 appearances as a reserve player. He will now join Majesticks GC for the upcoming season.

“Joining Majesticks GC is an incredible opportunity,” Canter said in LIV Golf’s announcement.

“My experience in the league has led me to become a more complete player and a multiple winner on the DP World Tour. To return to the league with Majesticks GC is a huge honour, and they bring a standard of excellence, ambition, and identity that really resonates with me. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to what this team is building.”

Laurie Canter will join Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Sam Horsfield, replacing Henrik Stenson following his relegation. Details of his contract have not been made public.
