The Denver Broncos’ season ended on the weekend after a 10-7 loss against the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game on Sunday.
Following the loss, Broncos coach Sean Payton’s decision to run the ball on a 4th-down call in the second quarter of the championship game has become a talking point.
Instead of opting for a field goal that would have given the Broncos a 10-0 lead, Payton went with the aggressive option. However, Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham’s incomplete pass squandered a glorious scoring oppurutity for Denver.
Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees gave his opinion on the decision in a conversation with Colin Cowherd on “The Herd.”

“At that point to take the points and go up 2 possessions I think is pretty significant,” Brees said. I tend to feel like in those types of games, you take points.”
Payton’s decision proved costly as the Patriots tied the score 7-7 after a rushing touchdown by Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
