Eagles Star Nakobe Dean Wins NFLPA Community MVP for His Kindness Off the Field — From Free Dental Care to Winter Coat Donations

Eagles' linebacker Nakobe Dean is the NFLPA Community MVP for Week 9

For Nakobe Dean, being an Eagle means more than just suiting up on Sundays. It means being a leader, on the field and off. This week, the Philadelphia linebacker’s commitment to giving back was recognized on a national level when he was named the Week 9 NFLPA Community MVP — an honor that celebrates players who make a difference in their communities through acts of service, compassion, and leadership.

Dean’s story is one of resilience and purpose. Though he spent much of the season recovering from an injury, the 23-year-old rising star didn’t slow down. Instead of letting rehab keep him on the sidelines of life, he used his time to invest in others — particularly the youth of Philadelphia.

💚 A Season of Service

While many players spend the offseason resting or training, Dean dedicated much of his downtime to community work. Through his Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe Foundation, he organized multiple charitable events aimed at supporting children, families, and underserved neighborhoods across the city.

Earlier this fall, Dean teamed up with the Oral Health Impact Project to launch their second annual school tour — an initiative designed to promote better dental hygiene and wellness among young students. The tour visited five local schools in Philadelphia, providing free dental cleanings, screenings, and oral hygiene supplies to over 100 students.

For many of those children, it was their first dental visit in years. Dean’s presence wasn’t just symbolic — he was hands-on, greeting students, distributing kits, and talking with them about the importance of self-care and education.

“It’s easy to think small acts don’t matter,” Dean said, “but if you show up for people, you give them hope. My mom always told me that kindness is priceless — that’s something I live by every day.”

🧥 From Smiles to Warmth: A Giveback to Remember

Just four days after the school tour, Dean and his foundation pulled off another major initiative — a community giveback event that directly served hundreds of local families.

Held in partnership with local organizations and volunteers, the event provided 1,000 brand-new winter coats to children and teenagers in need. In addition, Dean’s team offered 600 warm meals, 200 free haircuts, and 300 blood pressure and diabetes screenings for attendees.

For the families who showed up that day, it wasn’t just about receiving material help — it was about feeling seen, valued, and cared for.

“To see a pro athlete out here shaking hands, helping people carry bags, and talking with everyone like family — it meant everything,” said one Philadelphia parent who attended the event. “Nakobe wasn’t doing it for cameras. You could tell he really wanted to be here.”

It’s that authenticity that sets Dean apart.

🏈 A Heart as Big as His Game

When Dean was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, fans knew they were getting one of college football’s brightest defensive talents — a former Georgia Bulldog who captained one of the most dominant defenses in NCAA history.

But what Philadelphia discovered was more than an athlete. Dean brought with him a sense of humility, discipline, and community rooted in his upbringing in Horn Lake, Mississippi.

His mother, Neketta Dean, has been a lifelong influence, teaching him from an early age the importance of service. “My mom worked hard to raise me and my siblings,” Dean once shared. “She taught us to always give back, even when we didn’t have much. That lesson never left me.”

Through Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe, he’s turned those lessons into action — focusing on education, health, and mentorship. Whether it’s speaking at schools, providing supplies to local shelters, or sponsoring youth sports, Dean’s mission is consistent: to use his platform for good.

“I want to be remembered for more than football,” Dean said. “I want to inspire kids to dream big and to understand that success isn’t just about what you achieve — it’s about what you give.”

🥇 Honored, But Humble

As part of his recognition, the NFL Players Association will donate $10,000 to Dean’s foundation. That money will go directly toward funding future community projects, including plans for additional health and wellness initiatives in 2025.

In addition, Dean is now in contention for the prestigious Alan Page Community Award, presented annually to the player who demonstrates the greatest commitment to community service. The award includes a $100,000 grant to the winner’s foundation.

Despite the accolades, Dean remains grounded.

“I’m honored to be named an NFLPA Community MVP,” he said in his official statement. “Giving back affords me the opportunity to uplift others by showing that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. My mom instilled in me that the value of helping others is priceless — that’s what motivates me to keep serving and inspiring others.”

💪 Resilience Beyond the Game

Dean’s impact off the field comes at a time when he’s been fighting his way back onto it. After suffering an injury that sidelined him during part of the Eagles’ playoff run, Dean focused on recovery — a process that tested his patience and mindset.

Still, he refused to let his absence from the lineup define him. “I wasn’t going to sit around feeling sorry for myself,” he said. “If I couldn’t help my team on the field, I was going to help my community instead.”

His teammates took notice. “Nakobe is one of the most mature and hardworking guys in the locker room,” said fellow linebacker Haason Reddick. “He leads by example. He’s the kind of person who makes you want to be better — as a player and as a person.”

Head coach Nick Sirianni echoed those sentiments, praising Dean for embodying the culture of accountability and service that defines the Eagles’ organization. “He’s a natural leader,” Sirianni said. “What he does in the community reflects who he is — selfless, dedicated, and driven.”

🕊️ The True Meaning of MVP

In sports, the acronym “MVP” usually stands for “Most Valuable Player.” But for Nakobe Dean, it now carries an even deeper meaning: Most Valuable Person.

His story is a reminder that greatness isn’t measured only by touchdowns or tackles — it’s also measured by the lives you touch and the difference you make when no one’s watching.

Dean may still be early in his NFL career, but his legacy is already taking shape — one act of kindness at a time.

“At the end of the day,” he said, “you can’t take trophies or stats with you. But you can leave behind love, compassion, and hope. That’s what really matters.”

As the city of Philadelphia celebrates his recognition, one thing is clear: Nakobe Dean is more than just a linebacker — he’s a leader, a giver, and a shining example of what it means to wear the green and white with pride.
