Ex-Lions QB claims “Dak Prescott played himself out of the MVP” after losing in Detroit

Ex-Lions QB claims "Dak Prescott played himself out of the MVP" after losing in Detroit

Former Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky said that Dak Prescott might be out of the MVP conversation after the Cowboys’ disappointing 44-30 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday.

On Friday’s episode of ESPN’s “Get Up,” Orlovsky said that Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love now has the chance to become an MVP candidate for the season after the Cowboys’ Week 14 loss.

“Dak Prescott played himself out of the MVP last night,” Orlovsky said. “I think Jordan Love has the opportunity to, very much so start to play himself into it. I think that there’s a couple of guys ahead of it.

“The difference in Jordan Love recently is he’s putting the ball wherever he wants in coverage, and if he continues to do that against Chicago, I don’t think this game is close.”

Against the Lions, Dak Prescott completed 31 of 47 passes for 376 yards and just one touchdown. He also threw two interceptions while being sacked a total of five times.

This loss ended his team’s three-game winning streak. The Cowboys are placed second in the NFC East behind the Philadelphia Eagles with a 6-6-1 record.

Before Thursday’s game against the Lions, former NFL star Chris Canty praised Prescott while highlighting his importance on the roster and justifying the four-year, $240 million extension he received in 2024.

“This season is showing you that Dak Prescott is worth the money that Jerry Jones has paid,” Canty said on “Unsportsmanlike Radio.” “Because he’s been a stabilizing force in the franchise. … Dak Prescott has exhibited the type of leadership you would expect in the middle of a crisis. He’s the guy that has stabilized everything for the Dallas Cowboys. He’s been the constant.”

So far in 13 games, the quarterback has tallied 3,637 yards and 26 TDs passing. He is also the league leader in passing yards this season.

Dak Prescott issues a strong message after disappointing loss to the Detroit Lions

In the postgame press conference, Prescott said that the team is “angry” following the loss to the Lions.

The Cowboys quarterback also highlighted how he expects his team to use this anger and frustration as fuel in their upcoming game against the Minnesota Vikings.

“The guys are pissed off right now. I don’t think this is any deflated moment like our hands are tied up, we’re done. No. Absolutely not. I think you’re gonna get a team that’s pissed. I hope it pisses people off the right way and we use it as fuel.”

The Cowboys vs Vikings game is scheduled to be played on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 8:20 p.m. ET.
