Elite members from the LPGA and PGA Tours will team up for the third edition of the Grant Thornton Invitational, which begins this Friday in Naples, Fla. The mixed-team competition includes 16 teams with an athlete from each Tour, and this year, the field features 10 major champions who have combined for 134 victories across their respective circuits. Here’s a closer look at what you need to know about the Grant Thornton Invitational at Tiburón Golf Club.
Format
There will be 16 teams that will compete over three rounds beginning on Friday, and a different format will be used for each day of the competition. Starting Friday, the format will be a scramble, which will see each team member hit a tee shot and then select which tee shot they want to use for their second shot. Each teammate will hit from the same spot until they hole out.
On Saturday, the format switches to foursomes, also known as alternate shot. The team will take turns hitting shots with the same ball until they’ve completed a hole. Teams will have to decide which player will tee off on the odd-numbered and even-numbered holes.
On Sunday, the competition wraps up with a modified fourball format in which each team member will tee off and then switch balls for their second shot. Players will finish out the hole with that same ball, and the lowest score will be counted for each hole.

Jessica Korda Returns
For the first time since 2023, Jessica Korda will return to competitive golf. The six-time LPGA Tour winner stepped away from the LPGA Tour in May 2023 when she withdrew after the first round of the Founders Cup due to injury.
That same month, Korda said she’d be taking a prolonged absence from the Tour to rehabilitate her back, and in August 2023, Korda announced that she was expecting her first child, and she gave birth to her son Greyson in February 2024.
Jessica will compete in the Grant Thornton Invitational for the first time alongside Bud Cauley and will be joining her sister, Nelly, who is making her third appearance in the team event. The elder Korda is no stranger to team competition, as she is a three-time member of the U.S. Solheim Cup Team, representing the Americans in 2013, 2019, and 2021.
Who Is New?
There are several new faces joining the Grant Thornton Invitational this season, including eight first-timers from the PGA Tour.
Bud Cauley will make his debut this weekend alongside Jessica Korda as these two team up for the very first time. Cauley racked up four top 10s this season on the PGA Tour, three of which came consecutively in the spring and included a tie for sixth at THE PLAYERS.
Lottie Woad and Luke Clanton will both be competing for the first time at the Grant Thornton Invitational. The 21-year-old rookies both played collegiate golf at Florida State University, and they each spent stints as the No. 1-ranked amateur in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Woad became a Rolex First-Time Winner on the LPGA Tour in her professional debut with her victory at the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open. Clanton also turned professional in 2025 after a remarkable run in 2024 in which he recorded four top 10s on the PGA Tour while still in college.
Wyndham Clark is making his first appearance in the Grant Thornton Invitational and will be teaming up with Lexi Thompson. Clark is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, most notably taking home the U.S. Open title in 2023. Clark earned two top 10s this season on the PGA Tour and additionally tied for eighth last week at the Hero World Challenge. Thompson partnered with Rickie Fowler for the first two editions of the Grant Thornton Invitational.
Chris Gotterup joins Jennifer Kupcho for the first time at the Grant Thornton Invitational. Gotterup was arguably the hottest player on the PGA Tour during the month of July, a stretch that saw him win in Scotland and then finish third at the Open Championship before capping off his run with a tie for 10th at the 3M Open.
Michael Kim makes his debut in the team competition alongside two-time LPGA Tour winner Rose Zhang. Kim recorded four top 10s this year on the PGA Tour, most recently finishing 10th at the BMW Championship in August.
Neal Shipley will team up for the first time with major champion Maja Stark. Shipley was a two-time winner this season on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he earned his PGA Tour card for 2026.
Keith Mitchell joins teammate Megan Khang for the first time this weekend at the Grant Thornton Invitational. Mitchell picked up three top 10s this season, including a tie for second at the Corales Puntacana Championship in April.
Andrew Novak teams up with Lauren Coughlin for the first time in Naples, where he will be looking to build on the team success he enjoyed earlier this year on the PGA Tour. Novak won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Ben Griffin to capture his first win on the PGA Tour, and he has five other top 10s this season.
Defending Champions
In 2024, Patty Tavatanakit and Jake Knapp went wire-to-wire to win the Grant Thornton Invitational by a single stroke over Jeeno Thitikul and Tom Kim. Tavatanakit and Knapp, who gave themselves the team name “Rocco” last year, will reunite again this season as they look to do something that has yet to be done in the team competition – successfully defend their title.
Tavatanakit finished her season on a high with a tie for seventh at the CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburón Golf Club, the same course where she’ll compete with Knapp this weekend. Knapp recorded four top 10s on the PGA Tour in 2025.
