Why WWE Fans Are Turning on Cody Rhodes
Breece Hall’s contract situation is one of the biggest storylines in the NFL this offseason as uncertainty continues to swirl around his future. After posting a career-best 1,065 rushing yards, there’s a lot of debate on whether the New York Jets will tag him or hand him a new contract.
Reports on Monday linked Hall to a move to the Arizona Cardinals. Mike LaFleur’s team, which has a valuation of $5.5 billion according to Forbes, is said to be ready to make a big push to bring in the running back. Amid the latest speculation around Hall’s future, former Jets safety Victor Green weighed in on the situation on Monday.
“The Jets need to try to keep Breece. Don’t let him get away. They’re gonna have to pay another back anyway. What do you think, guys?” Green wrote on X.

Jets insider Rich Cimini offered an update on Breece Hall’s free-agency situation on Monday, noting that the team could still place the franchise or transition tag on him. He also added the likely duration of a new deal if Hall opts to commit to the franchise on a long-term basis.
“The tag deadline is next Tuesday. Franchise tag is projected at $14.5M; transition tag projected at $11.5M,” Cimini wrote on X. “Ideally, the Jets would like to sign Hall to an extension. A three-year, $33M contract ($20M gtd) seems fair. Failing a deal by March 3, they need to use a tag. If not, he probably will walk and they get nothing (except maybe a 2027 comp pick).
Rich Cimini explains the benefits and downsides of tagging Breece Hall
It remains unknown how the Jets plan to address the future of Breece Hall, but they have a limited time left to tag him. Rich Cimini detailed the benefits and downsides of using a franchise or transition tag on the running back in his update on the situation.
“The transition tag is rarely used, but it makes sense from an economic/cap standpoint. #Jets would have right of first refusal. Downside: If they don’t match an offer sheet, there’s no compensation and the loss wouldn’t count toward the 2027 comp-pick calculation. Basically, a transition tag lets another team do the heavy lifting.
“The franchise tag is excessive; there are better options. One unknown is Hall’s willingness to stay with the Jets; he’s been dropping hints for months that he might want to move on. If this is true, the Jets can use the franchise tag as a means to set up a tag-and-trade. A player with the transition tag also can be traded. In either case, the player must sign the tender before a trade can be executed.”
Despite the belief that Breece Hall is hoping to land elsewhere, the franchise tag has been picking up serious momentum lately. By using the tag, the Jets would retain control over his future. There’s a belief that they could slap the franchise tag on him and then trade him to another team.
