Giants insider outlines Jaxson Dart’s new reality after Brian Daboll’s departure from New York

A New York Giants insider has evaluated Jaxson Dart’s fate in the team following the firing of former head coach Brian Daboll. Daboll was shown the door after the Giants fell to a disappointing 24-20 defeat against the Chicago Bears on Sunday to go 2-8.

Daboll left after three and a half seasons, leaving a lot of incomplete business behind, including the development of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Daboll trusted Dart, fresh out of college, to lead the Giants’ offense, a path his interim successor, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, may not remain on.

Dart left Sunday’s game injured and is now in concussion protocol. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan analyzed how the change in leadership can work out for the Ole Miss alum. He wrote:

“First things first, Dart has to get healthy. He’s in the concussion protocol and could miss some time… But Kafka will now have to step into a bigger role in the development of Dart. Daboll met with the young quarterback regularly and for hours. That responsibility now falls on Kafka’s shoulders.”

Kafka will have to tap into his experience in developing rookie quarterbacks. The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback helped in developing Mahomes as he arrived in the league back in Kansas City. Raanan wrote further:

“As far as long term, this now puts into question whether Dart will have to learn a new scheme and get acclimated to a new coordinator next year… It all depends on how the remainder of the season plays out.”

How the Giants lost to the Bears with Jaxson Dart injured

Jaxson Dart was sidelined in the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Bears. Before being forced to abandon the game, he had completed 19 of 29 passes for 242 yards. The rookie also added 66 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.

With Dart out of the picture, the Giants’ offense struggled and didn’t score a touchdown in the game’s last quarter. Chicago exploited the weakness, staging a comeback and burying the game after the Giants had led by as much as 17-7 in the third quarter.

The Giants will be hoping to get Dart cleared from the concussion protocol in time for their next game. They are set to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in their Week 11 game.

Dart has thrown for 1,417 yards and 10 touchdowns so far this season, while running for 317 yards and seven touchdowns on 57 carries.
