“He could be boundary X target for Josh Allen”: NFL analyst urges Buffalo Bills to get aggressive by adding 6x Pro Bowler for 2026 NFL season

Without a doubt, one of the biggest needs of the Buffalo Bills this offseason is a wide receiver. In their bid to win the Super Bowl, the franchise is reportedly looking to get a top player at the position, either via the draft or free agency, to pair with Josh Allen in the upcoming season.

In his analysis of the best team fits for the top 50 players in free agency, ESPN’s Matt Bowen urged the Bills to go all the way and get Mike Evans. The veteran wide receiver has been one of the best in the position in the last decade, and Bowen sees him forming an insane chemistry with Allen.

“A return to Tampa Bay is clearly an option for Evans, but becoming the top receiver in Buffalo with quarterback Josh Allen makes a lot of sense, too,” Bowen wrote. “Under new coach Joe Brady, Evans could be that boundary X target for Allen and create matchups in the low red zone.

“I like the idea of Buffalo getting aggressive to add a proven and reliable target who had topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark in 11 straight seasons before injuries derailed his 2025 campaign.”

Mike Evans is undoubtedly one of the most established wide receivers in the NFL over the last decade, and he possesses Super Bowl experience, which the Buffalo Bills crucially need. The six-time Pro Bowler also brings in leadership and mentorship qualities to the wide receiver room.

Mike Evan to Buffalo Bills continues to gain momentum in the media

With the chances of returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers getting slimmer, the media has continued to link Mike Evans to the Buffalo Bills. Prior to Mike Bowen’s analysis, PFF’s Ryan Smith also named the team as the best fit for the veteran wide receiver late in January.

“The Bills’ glaring weakness at wide receiver was on full display once again in 2025 as the team struggled to stretch the field vertically, recording the sixth-fewest receptions on throws of 20-plus yards,” Smith wrote.

“Mike Evans missed time with multiple injuries in 2025 but is just one year removed from ranking third among all wideouts with an elite 90.4 PFF overall grade. While the 32-year-old’s best days may be behind him, he can still be a valuable piece on a contending team in the short term.”

Bringing in a solid wide receiver like Mike Evans for Josh Allen takes the Buffalo Bills some steps closer to their Super Bowl dream. The general manager, Brandon Beane, has expressed his intention to be aggressive this offseason, and getting Evans would immediately prove that.
