“He has the bad tendencies that Caleb Williams had”: NFL draft analyst Todd McShay questions Shedeur Sanders’ maturity after Browns name him starter

NFL draft analyst Todd McShay questions Shedeur Sanders’ maturity after Browns name him starter

Shedeur Sanders finally got his opportunity to start for the Cleveland Browns. Now, coach Kevin Stefanski has named him the starting quarterback of the team for the remainder of the season.

On Friday, on “The Triple Option Podcast,” NFL draft analyst Todd McShay shared his honest thoughts on Shedeur Sanders’ future in the league. He said that he predicts him to part ways with the Browns.

He then compared Coach Prime’s son to Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams, stating that Shedeur had a lot of “maturing” to do if he wants to be successful in the NFL.

“I don’t think (Shedeur’s NFL future) is in Cleveland,” McShay said. “I think he can (start in the NFL). I think he has a lot of maturing to do. I really do. I think both as an individual and as a quarterback, and learning to play within the scheme. I think there’s a lot of drifting and sliding out of the pocket.

“There’s this, kind of like, hero brand of quarterback that he likes to play. … He had the bad tendencies that Caleb Williams had, that he developed in USC. But he doesn’t have the arm and mobility that Caleb possessed to get out of trouble.”

Shedeur Sanders made his Browns debut in the second half of their Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens after Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion. In that game, he completed four of 16 passes for 47 yards and no touchdowns. Coach Stefanski then named him as the QB1 while Gabriel was in concussion protocol.

In his starting quarterback debut in Week 12, Shedeur led his team to a 24-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. He was retained as the QB1 even after Gabriel returned from concussion protocol. However, the Browns lost the last two games to the 49ers and the Titans.

So far, in four appearances, Shedeur Sanders has tallied 769 yards and five TDs passing with three interceptions.

Retired 2x Super Bowl champion draws comparison between Shedeur Sanders and Caleb Williams ahead of Browns vs Bears Week 15 game

On Friday’s episode of the “Speakeasy” show, ex-NFL star LeSean McCoy made a bold claim that involved Shedeur Sanders and Caleb Williams.

He expressed his confidence in Coach Prime’s son to emerge as the better quarterback during their Week 15 showdown and lead his team to victory.

“I think if he beats Caleb Williams, I think he’s better than Caleb Williams,” McCoy said. “We keep forgetting that this kid’s only been starting for two weeks. He’s only had two weeks as a full starter.

“Now, he’s in a plan for himself, the plays he likes. Now his head coach ain’t acting like he ain’t Shedeur. Right now, he lets that swagger go.”
