“He’s winning” – Justin Rose calls on Jon Rahm to pay outstanding fines

Justin Rose calls on Jon Rahm

Justin Rose shared his opinion about Jon Rahm after the Spanish golfer decided not to accept the DP World Tour conditions to receive the conditional status to play on the circuit. The former Masters winner joined LIV Golf in 2024 and had been banned from the PGA Tour and was fined by the DP World Tour. However, he filed a complaint against the fine on the European Tour.

Earlier this year, the DP World Tour granted conditional status to eight players who have accepted their conditions to play on the league. However, Rahm did not accept the conditions, making his status to play in the Ryder Cup in doubt.

This week, Justin Rose, who played with Rahm for the Europe team in the Ryder Cup last year, is preparing to play at The Players Championship, and in a pre-tournament press conference held on Tuesday, he opened up about Rahm

“I would like to see Jon — how many guys, eight? The other seven did it. So obviously eight did it and Jon didn’t,” Rose said. “So I mean, there’s pretty decent precedent that the deal wasn’t outrageous that they were proposing.

“But at the same time, I would like to see Jon pay his fines for sure and be a part of the Ryder Cup. For me, obviously playing on LIV was a decision that he made and wanted to make, and fair play to him for making it and good for him. He’s playing good golf out there. He’s winning. He’s making a lot of money, and he’s — you know, you can’t argue, can’t knock what he’s been able to achieve out there. So I would just see it as a cost of doing business for Jon,” he added.

To play in the Ryder Cup for the European team, a player must have a DP World Tour card, and to earn the card, players must play on the circuit. Jon Rahm made his debut at the Ryder Cup in 2018 and then played in the biennial event in 2021, 2023, and 2025.

Justin Rose shared excitement to play at The Players

Justin Rose is excited to play in The Players Championship. The English golfer opened up about the event in a tournament press conference on Tuesday.

“Always great to be back,” Rose said. “I feel like this tournament has evolved so much through the years, but kind of got to the point where you sort of drive up through the driveway, you see the golf course unfold in front of you. It always looks perfect. I feel like the character of the course has changed for the better over the years. Yeah, it’s just an inspiring place to kind of walk, drive up the drive. So, yeah, excited to be back.”

The Players will start with the opening round on Thursday, March 12. Justin Rose has had notable finishes in the event in the past, but is still looking forward to a win in the tournament.

Rose made his debut at The Players in 2003, finishing T39. His notable finish at the Players was in 2014, where he settled in a T4 place and then recorded a T8 in 2019. He was tied for sixth in 2023 but then missed the cut in 2024 and 2025.

This season on the PGA Tour, Justin Rose has played in five events. He won the Farmers Insurance Open in January. However, he struggled in his last two outings at The Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he missed the cut.
