Scottie Scheffler has been in seriously underwhelming form by his standards heading into The Players Championship this week.
Scheffler played some hugely inconsistent golf at Bay Hill last week during the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but he still ended up inside the top 25.
In fact, the 29-year-old world number one hasn’t been at his best at all on the PGA Tour so far this year, although he did win his first event of the season.

Who do you think will win The Players Championship this week?
Scottie is the strong favourite…
Scheffler has allowed his temper to boil over out on the golf course in recent weeks, due to just how frustrated he has been with his form.
The 20-time PGA Tour winner has proven that he is, in fact, fallible, and that will annoy him more than anyone can comprehend.
He will be desperate to return to his best at The Players Championship.
TPC Sawgrass is perfectly suited to Scheffler’s skillset. In fairness, though, what golf course isn’t?
Has he got the game to win this week? You better believe he has!
I am convinced Scottie Scheffler will win the Players Championship and here’s why
While Scheffler’s anger got the better of him at Bay Hill, he would have left that behind him as he made his way up the I-95 to Jacksonville from Orlando.
There is nobody better in the game at resetting and starting again than the four-time major champion.
It’s fair to say that there aren’t many players who are mentally stronger either, if any at all.
After his disappointment at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he would have immediately shifted his focus to The Players and he’ll now have the bit between his teeth.
With some golf journalists and fans writing him off already, a hungry Scheffler with a point to prove should be a scary prospect for the Players Championship field.
After Scheffler finished in a tie for 20th at The Players Championship last season, he didn’t finish outside the top-8 until two weeks ago at Riviera.
The 29-year-old from Dallas, Texas, clearly doesn’t like not being in contention at the very least.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Scheffler has been working incredibly hard over the past few days since his final round 73 at Bay Hill to fix the issues he obviously has with his game right now.
Scheffler has been given an early tee time on Thursday. It’s interesting to note that 14 of the past 17 winners of The Players Championship have started the first two rounds during the AM/PM wave.
Now it’s time for the Texan to do what he does best by hitting fairways and greens and holing his fair share of putts.
Scottie Scheffler’s iron play is ready to click into gear
Scheffler’s iron play has been average at best this season and in truth, his approaches into the greens have been really holding him back.
However, there really is no need to panic. Scheffler will go back to basics on the range this week alongside his long-time coach Randy Smith and there is a good chance he will figure out his issue.
Someone who has been ranked first in strokes gained approach for the last three seasons does not just lose their iron play all of a sudden.
Do you think Scottie Scheffler is ‘too boring’ or ‘overly emotional’?
Because golf fans can’t have it both ways…
The fact that Scheffler has been so consistently good with his approach play for more than three years now proves that he is far from a flash in the pan.
It’s only a matter of time before the world number one dials in his irons once again.
Scottie Scheffler has won The Players Championship twice before. He knows how to get the job done at Sawgrass.
And it really shouldn’t surprise anyone if he becomes only the second man after Jack Nicklaus to win The Players three times this week.
It’s also worth noting that with a victory, Scheffler would become the first man to win the tournament three times at TPC Sawgrass.
We all know how much he loves breaking records. This is the world number one’s week; you heard it here first.
