Mike Macdonald’s Seattle Seahawks have hired Brian Fleury as their new offensive coordinator following the departure of Klint Kubiak to coach the Las Vegas after Super Bowl LX. Fleury takes over the coveted job despite having never called plays in the NFL.
Mike Macdonald sees no problem with Fleury’s lack of play-calling experience.
“I do think it’s a bit overrated, Macdonald said during a press conference.
“All play-callers have to be first-time play-callers at some point.”

Brian Fleury joins the Super Bowl LX Champions fresh off a stint with the San Francisco 49ers. Fleury worked as the team’s run game coordinator and tight ends coach in the season just past.
According to Yardbarker, Fleury worked as the San Francisco 49ers’ tight ends coach for the past four seasons. He added run game coordinator duties ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Macdonald believes Brian Fleury will figure out the rudiments of play-calling and maintain the Seahawks’ impressive offensive standard. The Seahawks ran the ball more than any team in 2025, and they have arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL on their roster in Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks are looking to win back-to-back Super Bowls
Mike Macdonald guided the Seattle Seahawks to a blowout 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. It’s the franchise’s second Vince Lombardi Trophy in its illustrious history.
Macdonald’s Seahawks are now looking to join a select few teams that won back-to-back Super Bowls in NFL history. The 2023-2024 Kansas City Chiefs, 2003-2004 New England Patriots, 1997-1998 Denver Broncos, 1992-1993 Dallas Cowboys, 1988-1989 San Francisco 49ers, 1974-1975 and 1978-1979 Pittsburgh Steelers, 1972-1973 Miami Dolphins and 1966-1967 Green Bay Packers are the only teams to achieve the feat.
The Seattle Seahawks will look to return as many key starters as possible to give them a great chance of being repeat Super Bowl champions. They’ll also attempt to plug a few holes on the roster via free agency and the draft.
Macdonald’s troops surprised the league with their poise under the bright lights in 2025. They’ll now enter the 2026 season with a target on their back as reigning Super Bowl champions.
