The Detroit Lions suffered a frustrating 16-9 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The loss knocked the Lions (6-4) out of first place in the NFC North.
Following the loss, the Lions trail the Chicago Bears (7-3) by a game and the Green Bay Packers (6-3-1) by a half-game in the division. Former NFL defensive end Chris Kanty questioned the Lions’ credentials after coming up short against the defending Super Bowl winners.
“I’m starting to put the Lions are on fraud alert,” Kanty said. “Aytime they have a big game, they end up spitting the bed and whether you want to call it Dan Campbell being too aggressive on fourth downs or Jared Goff not being at his best too many times, we see the Detroit Lions in a big spot, come up really, really small, and I’m tired of it.”

While the former Super Bowl winner acknowledged the Lions’ impressive regular season record, Kanty believes the goal is to make a deep playoff run and win the Super Bowl.
“We keep assigning this championship level contention to the Detroit Lions and they keep disappointing us every single year, and I get it. They got a gaudy regular season record, they are tied with the Eagles for the most wins since the start of 2023, I get all of that.
“But the goal isn’t to have a lot of regular season wins. The goal is to be able to build a bully, to build a team that’s capable of being able to go on a deep playoff run and represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. And right now, I don’t feel that way about the Detroit Lions. There’s too much variance in what we get from them from game to game from week to week.”
Chris Canty goes after Lions quarterback Jared Goff after Eagles loss
Lions quarterback Jared Goff wasn’t at his best against the Eagles on Sunday as the 31-year-old quarterback had a 37.8% pass completion rate for 255 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Chris Kanty highlighted Goff’s underwhelming outing against the Eagles, raising question marks over his abilities in pressure situations.
“Jared Goff, it’s time for us to have a conversation about him. Oh, it’s time for us to call him to the carpet because I get it, that Eagles defense was humming last night, they were getting after him, but at some point, you have to find a way to be able to elevate the play of everybody around you. And Jared Goff did not do that.
“All of the attempts that he had when he was pressured, dawg, you got to complete one of them. At least one of them. But that is completely inexcusable. So, yeah I’m over it.”
The Lions do not control their playoff destiny as they are out of a wild-card spot after their Week 11 loss against the Eagles.
