“It happens in this league”: Aaron Glenn calls out referees over Jets’ inability to sub before Henry touchdown

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn disagreed with the referees’ decision not to allow his team to make a substitution before Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry scored on Sunday. At 8:49 in the second quarter, Henry ran for two yards to record his team’s first touchdown and give Baltimore a 10-7 lead.

Talking with reporters after the game, Glenn was asked about the referees not allowing the Jets to make a substitution before Henry scored. The coach said that wasn’t the only call he thought was unfair, but he refused to hide behind it.

“There were a number of calls that I questioned, but again, the one thing that we’re not going to do is we’re not going to make excuses,” Glenn said. “It happens in this league. I just thought when they sub, that you have to give us time to sub. Our guys were running on the field and we didn’t have time to sub. It is what it is.”

The Jets had a terrific first half, limiting the Ravens to just three points, four first downs, 23 yards rushing and 49 yards passing. Things changed after halftime, which Glenn admitted he had foreseen after the flawless first half.

“Man, to not get a victory when I think those guys really played the first half exactly, exactly how we wanted to,” Glenn said. “We come out of the half 7-3. We knew in the second half they were going to have a surge, and those guys did.”

The Ravens scored 20 points in the second half, while the Jets added just three points. New York lost its ninth game of the season, while Baltimore secured its fifth consecutive win.

Jets defender had similar comments to Aaron Glenn about the referees

Jets cornerback Brandon Stephens had a solid performance against his former team, finishing with four tackles. Stephens shared his thoughts on the referees’ performances, admitting that the defense needed to do a better job avoiding penalties.

“It’s not for me to say,” Stephens said. “I mean, we just got to get off the field on third down, whatever it takes. The penalties are going to come in this game, but we just got to limit [them] and try not to have those on third downs. Pivotal third downs. Every third down is pivotal.”

Aaron Glenn and the Jets will face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday to try to end their two-game losing streak.
