“It’s just an arbitrary number”: Colin Cowherd busts Mike Tomlin’s no losing season narrative while putting Steelers HC under the lens

Colin Cowherd is not impressed with Mike Tomlin’s long tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Tuesday’s episode of his show, he highlighted how the Steelers coach has never had a losing season since taking over the franchise.

However, Cowherd also believes that this is not substantial enough to guarantee Tomlin’s job security. He said that the coach would have been fired had he been a part of any other franchise in the NFL.

“I’m going to throw something at you that I think it’s an arbitrary number that everybody in sports sees it as a number having value,” Cowherd said. “And I see it as an arbitrary number that doesn’t really mean anything. So Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have not had a losing season in 21 seasons. But there’s a story this morning, is the hot seat heating up as well?

“He hasn’t won a playoff game in eight years. He would be fired if he as the Eagles coach or the Cowboys coach. He would be fired if he was, I mean, the New England coach, the San Francisco coach, the Green Bay coach. … But in Pittsburgh, it’s old school, and they take pride in stuff like we have not had a losing season in 21 years. … Winning record doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t guarantee anything. … It’s nothing against Mike, but this arbitrary 21 years without a losing record. It means nothing.”

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have not won a playoff game since losing the AFC Championship to the Patriots in 2016. After Sunday’s 31-28 loss to the Bears, they are 6-5 and lost their No.1 spot in the AFC North to the Ravens.

Mike Tomlin provides an update on Aaron Rodgers’ injury

Aaron Rodgers suffered a wrist injury during their 34-12 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12. Thus, the four-time NFL MVP was benched during Sunday’s loss to the Bears. Mason Rudolph took over as his replacement. He ended the night completing 24 of 31 passes for 171 yards and one passing touchdown

On Tuesday, Mike Tomlin provided an update on Aaron Rodgers’ injury rehabilitation.

“We’re comfortable with the general trajectory of (Rodgers),” Tomlin said.

Tomlin seems optimistic that Aaron Rodgers will be cleared to play Sunday in Week 13. This game against the Buffalo Bills will be an important one for the team and its hopes of making the playoffs.

The Steelers vs Bills game will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on CBS.
