Jayden Daniels is not playing again in 2025, and he has some thoughts about it.
On Monday, the Washington Commanders announced that they would be resting the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year for their final three games. He had returned to action from a dislocated elbow at the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14, only to reaggravate the injury while attempting to stop an interception return.
Speaking about the decision on Tuesday, he admitted his disappointment and frustration at it (quotes below start at 1:10 in the embedded video):
“Super tough, man. I don’t want to miss games at all. It’s been frustrating being associated with missing games. I want to be out there helping my teammates as much as possible, so it’s just been a frustrating year at this point, but you learn from it and you move forward.”

Nevertheless, he vowed to continue supporting his teammates, especially his stand-in Marcus Mariota:
“I’ll be out there practicing whatever they need me to do. If I gotta do scout team, I’ll have fun with that and give the best looks. … That’s my focus, man. Being the best teammate in the locker room, anything Marcus needs to be there for him. And just how supportive he’s been for me in my career, exchange roles and do that for him.”
Commanders HC Dan Quinn reveals Jayden Daniels’ practice plans for final three weeks of 2025 season
Meanwhile, coach Dan Quinn revealed that Jayden Daniels had requested that he be excluded from the injured reserve so that he could continue his development in practice:
“He’ll work some of the scout cards on concepts that we have, so it’ll be a little bit of a mix. Today’s not quite as much, we’re not going as fast, but even then there’s some post-practice work that he’ll do too.”
And the quarterback intends to absorb and memorize as much information as he can:
“Kind of have that time to really sit there and maybe ask DQ about situational football or go talk to (defensive backs coach Jason) Simmons and all those guys to see what they’re thinking and how they would call this and what are the rules and principles. So, there’s a lot I can learn.”
The Commanders will host the Philadelphia Eagles this Saturday. That game kicks off at 5 pm ET on Fox.
