Jordan Spieth once told amateur golfers the one thing they should never do on the course

Jordan Spieth may have struggled with his game in recent years but he was the very best golfer on the planet not too long ago.

Spieth has 13 PGA Tour wins to his name including three major championships, so amateurs need to heed any golf tips he has dished out over the years.

Spieth’s advice usually centers around simplifying the game and that’s exactly how it should be.

Perhaps he needs to heed his own advice. Spieth has been in the golfing wilderness for too long now, and he needs to return to the winner’s circle as soon as possible.

Amateurs will be able to relate to the 32-year-old going through tough times on the golf course.

If you’re an amateur golfer who is struggling with your game right now, it’s worth taking a look at something Spieth said back in his heyday about driving the golf ball.

Jordan Spieth advised amateur golfers one thing they should never do

Let’s take a trip down memory lane to 10 years ago, after Spieth ended the year with two major championships to his name.

At the time, the now 32-year-old had won The Masters and the US Open in 2015, and actually had a great chance to win The Open and the PGA Championship that year as well.

Considering everything he has achieved in the game, the Dallas native is quite obviously a good person to learn from.

Spieth recently shared a great putting tip to help amateur golfers improve on the greens and now, the focus is on driving the golf ball.

When writing a series of tips for Today’s Golfer when he was ranked as the best player in the world, Spieth advised amateurs about something they should never do on the golf course.

He said: You swing one way, there’s one ball flight. Don’t make things too complicated. My dad is a prime example: he finds the fairway just about every time with a little pull cut, but because he keeps on trying to hit a draw for whatever reason, maybe for added distance, he wrecks his scorecard!

So stick to your strengths. If you’ve played golf virtually your whole life, but you’re not a low handicapper, I’d say make sure you stick to what works for you even if you can’t pull off a certain shot and somebody in your fourball can.

That really is great advice from Spieth.

All amateur golfers need to follow Spieth’s advice on driving

If amateur golfers, especially the higher handicap players, stuck to what they are actually good at, rather than attempting shots outside of their limitations, their handicaps would come down quickly.

The key here is actually being able to master one specific shot.

If your natural shot is a fade, then work with it, don’t fight it!

Even on a dog leg left, for a right handed player, there is absolutely no need to try to force a draw.

Perhaps take a three-wood out of the bag or an iron and approach the hole with a sensible mindset, taking a big number out of play. Or just start your driver down the left hand side of the fairway and fade it back into play.

Simplify matters and make life easier on yourself, just like Spieth suggested.
