Jordan Spieth says what he can now do for the first time in a long time, ‘I know great things are coming’

The 2025 season did not provide the fireworks fans of Jordan Spieth would have been hoping for as the three-time major champion made his return after undergoing wrist surgery.

There was cautious optimism that the end of 2024 could be a turning point in Jordan Spieth‘s career. He seemingly dealt with the injury that had plagued him for several years.

Do you believe Jordan Spieth can get back to his best?

How many times will he win on the PGA Tour this season?

There were bright signs early on. Spieth was a contender at the WM Phoenix Open before Thomas Detry ran away with the title at TPC Scottsdale. Unfortunately, he would register just one more top five finish over the course of the year.

With so much quality at the top of the game right now, it appears entirely possible that Spieth will not add another major title to his record.

Jordan Spieth optimistic that great things lie ahead

The 32-year-old has also not won on the PGA Tour since 2022. He will be relying on sponsor invites to make it into the first few signature events of this season.

But perhaps there is reason for fresh hope. Speaking to Golf.com about how he has felt about his game since his return, Spieth explained that he is confident that he is on the right path.

“After I had surgery, I wasn’t really able to go full until almost Jan 1. I played a couple of rounds in December, but it’s not like I had it and I was able to come back and have an off-season to work on things. Most of what I was working on was through the season last year, and I felt like I got 25 per cent there and then I felt like I got 70 per cent once the season ended and I was able to just focus on improving mechanics,” he said.

“The last five is just tournament play, taking it to the course and the consistency level. The way I started to think about it was like smoking meats. When I was working on it, say it’s chicken, it can get up to 155 really quickly, but that last 10 degrees takes the same amount of time it took to get all the way up there. It’s felt like that a little bit. It’s a weird analogy.

“It’s been really fun to work on, because once the feel, the real, and the performance matches, it’s like man, I know great things are coming. It’s just been a long time since I’ve been able to position the club this way. I’m not doing it every time, but I know how to do it and I’m doing it some. So I know to do it more and more as I continue to work the right things.”

Spieth could go either way after an interesting 2025 season

The 2025 season was strange for Spieth in the sense that he established himself as a decent all-rounder on the PGA Tour.

There were no events where Spieth holed every putt he looked at. But he was also nowhere near as erratic as he has been at times over the last few years.

That arguably bodes well if there is more to come. He appears to have put some much more solid foundations in place.

The question now is whether he can emerge from the pack and join the elite players on the PGA Tour once again.

At the very least, it is encouraging to hear how confident he is.
