Matt Fitzpatrick reveals what happened on the range with his coach three days before his Valspar win

Matt Fitzpatrick won the third PGA Tour title of his career at the Valspar Championship on Sunday.

Fitzpatrick shot a final round 68 at the Valspar Championship to win by one from David Lipsky.

The Englishman has been in sensational form recently, and backed up his runner-up finish at The Players Championship with a win at the Copperhead Course on Sunday.

Fitzpatrick proved just how clutch he is when he birdied his final hole at the Valspar Championship

Things became fairly heated during the final round at the Copperhead Course, when Fitzpatrick was forced to complain to arules official about the pace of play of his playing partner, Adrien Dumont de Chassart.

However, he brushed those frustrations aside before going on to win the title in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Matt Fitzpatrick reveals what happened with his coach three days before Valspar win

A delighted Fitzpatrick spoke to reporters immediately after his win at the Valspar Championship on Sunday.

The Englishman was asked by one reporter what part of his game has improved the most over the past year or so.

There’s a big difference in my approach play, Fitzpatrick admitted.

Me and Mark Blackburn had a great session last Thursday afternoon after the round, a really, really good session that felt like really, really helped me.

It’s made a big difference over the last seven rounds of golf I’ve played. I hit my irons really well. I know going into today I think I was first in approach play for the first three rounds.

I don’t know where I ended up finishing, but that’s a big difference from where I’ve come from in the past.

I always felt like short game’s been good enough, felt like my driving’s always been good enough and putting’s been good enough.

So approach play always felt like it was the missing link. So far this year it’s been really good and last year it was really good as well. So just about continuing that and keep improving as much as I can and giving myself more opportunities.

Matt Fitzpatrick’s coach, Mark Blackburn, raved about his iron play just a few days ago, and all of his hard work has now come to fruition.

Matt Fitzpatrick’s stats at the Valspar Championship

Fitzpatrick’s game was in tip-top condition in pretty much every single department last week.

He was ranked fifth in strokes gained off the tee, and second in strokes gained approach at the Valspar Championship.

The Englishman’s chipping and pitching was very good as well, as he ended the week ranked 17th in strokes gained around the greens.

Fitzpatrick was ranked 42nd in strokes gained putting and, unsurprisingly, he was ranked first in strokes gained total.

What a week for Fitzpatrick at the Valspar.

He will now be hugely confident heading into major season, and with good reason.
