Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur offered an update on what his future will look like after the Chicago Bears eliminated them on Saturday. Despite entering the fourth quarter up 21-6, they couldn’t close out the game and lost 31-27 after Caleb Williams connected with DJ Moore for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 1:43 left on the clock.

The Packers ended the season on a five-game losing skid, which already raised eyebrows around the fanbase. LaFleur’s future was questioned, with many saying he should be fired after Saturday’s collapse. LaFleur spoke with reporters on Sunday, sharing the latest on his situation.

Per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the coach talked briefly with Ed Policy as the team flew back to Wisconsin. They will discuss his future soon.

The Packers spent over a month without a win (28-21 against the Bears on Dec. 7), dropping games against the Bears in Week 16 (22-16 in overtime), the Lamar Jackson-less Baltimore Ravens (41-24) in Week 17 and against the Minnesota Vikings (16-3), a team out of playoff contention, in Week 18.

After serving as the LA Rams offensive coordinator in 2017 and landing the same job on the Tennessee Titans in 2018, Matt LaFleur replaced Mike McCarthy on the Packers. He posted a 76-40 record in seven years, but the Packers couldn’t enjoy playoff success.

Jordan Love makes a clear statement on Matt LaFleur’s future with Packers

In the wake of the Bears game, Packers’ starting quarterback Jordan Love reflected on the game, noting that they couldn’t close it out and the lack of execution eventually backfired.

Additionally, he discussed LaFleur’s future, making it clear that he hopes the 46-year-old remains with the team beyond this season.

“I definitely think Matt should be the head coach,” Love said, per the NFL’s wire report. “I’ve got a lot of love for Matt, and I think he does a good job.”

The Packers scheduled contract extension talks with LaFleur for after the wild-card game on Soldier Field. Green Bay started the game on a high note, but they collapsed in the second half.
