Matt Ryan believes Matthew Stafford is “head and shoulders” above Drake Maye and Josh Allen amid MVP buzz

NFL quarterbacks Matthew Stafford, Drake Maye, and Josh Allen

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback and 2016 MVP Matt Ryan has pitched his tent with Matthew Stafford in the ongoing race for this year’s MVP. Stafford has emerged as one of the leading candidates for the award alongside the Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and his Buffalo Bills counterpart, Josh Allen.

Ryan was asked by Kay Adams on his Wednesday appearance on the Up & Adams Show to make a case for Stafford’s MVP candidacy. The former quarterback, a known friend of Stafford, responded, saying:

“I think he’s made the case for himself pretty well. Everything he does, talk about the number of touchdown passes, the limited turnovers, the explosive plays, the wins, the record. I just think he’s been outstanding the entire year. I think he’s gonna win. I think he deserves it. I think there’s a lot of guys who are in that question. … But when you take into account from start to finish of the regular season. We’ll see what happens in the next three weeks, but up until this point, I think Matthew Stafford has been head and shoulders above everyone else. Maybe the best year of his entire career.”

Reviewing Matthew Stafford’s season so far

Matthew Stafford has had an amazing season so far, contributing crucially to the Los Angeles Rams’ incredible run this season. The Rams beat the Detroit Lions 41-34 last Sunday to remain firmly on top of the NFC. Stafford’s number from the game shows just how much his leadership has meant for the Rams this season.

The 38-year-old quarterback completed 24 of 38 passes for 368 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. While he has been limited on the ground, Stafford has dictated the pace for the Rams’ offense this season from the air. He has passed for 3,722 yards and 37 touchdowns, leading the league in passing touchdowns while he’s second in passing yards.

With Stafford under center, the Rams (11-3) are now on course to win the NFC, with their sights also set on the Super Bowl. The team is currently faced with some injury concerns, including wide receivers Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. Adams left the Rams’ win over the Lions with a hamstring injury, while Nacua left the game with cramps, only to return later.

The Rams’ next game is against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday. They need a win over the Seahawks to stay atop the NFC.
