“NFL chose someone who is so full of hate”: Ex-ESPN host Sage Steele calls out Roger Goodell for “anti-American” Bad Bunny’s pick for Super Bowl

Former ESPN host Sage Steele is not happy with Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny headlining the Super Bowl LX halftime show.

On Saturday’s episode of the “Actual Friends” podcast, she highlighted how the “King of Latin Trap” has been vocal about in his criticism of Donald Trump’s administration. Steele also questioned if it was ethical for an “Anti-American” like Bad Bunny to perform on a big American platform like the halftime show.

“I’m just sad and disappointed that they chose someone who is so full of hate, who spews hate, and hee is basically anti-American,” Steele said. “And I think that’s the part that bothers me. There’s nothing against where he comes from.”

This is not the first time Sage Steele has spoken up against Bad Bunny. On Friday, on the “Faulker Focus” show, she highlighted how the “Me Porto Bonito” hitmaker has previously urged fans to learn Spanish to enjoy his performance at Super Bowl LX.

“I want to poin this thing out as well. This isn’t about someone who is not American, and Bad Bunny is, but it isn’t about that. U2, they’re from Ireland. They gave an amazing performance right after 9/11 20-something years ago. This is about, as an artist, you lead with hate, and that is what Bad Bunny has done from day one,” Steele said.

“When he says, ‘I’m not going to speak your language, you have four months to learn it,’ are you kidding me? It would never be acceptable in their country. So, that’s the disturbing (thing). Not that he’s from Puerto Rico. That he says he hates us, he’s not going to take our money but now he’s doing it.”

After receiving criticism and backlash for asking NFL fans to learn Spanish to enjoy this year’s halftime show, the Puerto Rican singer backtracked on his comments on Thursday, stating that knowing how to dance is the only thing that matters.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell shares his thoughts on Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl LX halftime show headliner

During the 2026 Grammy Awards, the “King of Latin Trap” used his acceptance speech to protest against ICE.

After this situation, Roger Goodell on Monday backed up their decision to have the “Dakiti” singer as their haltime show performer this year. He also said that the artist stands for unity.

“Listen, Bad Bunny is, and I think that was demonstrated last night, one of the greatest artist in the world,” Goodell said. “That’s one of the reasons we chose him.

“But the other reason is he understood the platform he was on, and that his platform is used to unite people and be able to bring people together with their creativity, with their talent, and to be able to use this moment to do that. I think artists in the past have done that, I think he understands that, and I think he’ll have a great performance.”
