Ludvig Aberg received praise from Michael Thorbjornsen at The Players Championship 2026. They are in contention to win the event, and they will tee off together on Sunday in the same group.

Thorbjornsen was asked about playing in the final round of The Players Championship with Aberg in the post-round press conference on Saturday. The American golfer called Aberg a “great guy.”

“That would be pretty cool,” Thorbjornsen said. “He’s a great guy. I love playing golf with him. He was one of the guys in college that I looked up to, even though he’s only one year older than me.

“Very solid, very solid player. I think his mental game is extremely good as well. So if it ends up happening, I’m really looking forward to it and then, yeah, pretty cool that I guess two hometown guys are in the final group,” he added.

Notably, Thorbjornsen carded a round of 67 on Saturday and jumped eight positions on the leaderboard to settle in second place. Meanwhile, Ludvig Aberg is in the lead at 13-under. The final round of the event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 15.

Players will tee off at 7:35 a.m. ET, with Takumi Kanaya taking the first tee shot of the day. Aberg will tee off in a group with Thorbjornsen at 1:40 p.m. ET on the first tee.

Ludvig Aberg opens up about his performance at The Players Championship

Ludvig Aberg kick-started his campaign at The Players Championship on Thursday with an opening round of 69. He then carded a round of 63 on Friday, followed by a round of 71 on Saturday.

He settled with a score of 13-under for the lead in the event. During the post-round press conference, the Swedish golfer opened up about his performance.

“I think Sawgrass is a golf course where you have to execute and you have to hit fairways and golf shots, and obviously the eagle on 11 was nice, coming off the birdie on 9, and felt like I didn’t play amazing but I got a little bit out of it, at least, which was nice, then would have loved to have a little bit of something on 16, 17 and 18,” Aberg said. “But overall pleased with the way I was playing today in a tough condition.”

Ludvig Aberg kick-started his 2026 campaign on the PGA Tour at The American Express and carded rounds of 68 and 67. However, he then withdrew from the event after the second round.

He then struggled at the Farmers Insurance Open and missed the cut after rounds of 78 and 72. In his last outing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Aberg settled in a tie for third place.
