Patrick Reed has reportedly passed on his LIV Golf contract even after the Saudi league met his demands. The American golfer announced his exit after winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. On Wednesday, he announced that he would not be playing in LIV Golf and would be returning to the PGA Tour.

Reed had hinted at his exit from LIV Golf after he won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic last week, before finally confirming it this week. As reported by The Telegraph, the Saudi league agreed to fulfil his demands but passed on the contract.

Nuclr Golf shared the post on its X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption:

“The Telegraph reports that Patrick Reed passed on a new deal with LIV Golf, despite the league meeting his contract demands.”

Patrick Reed is set to play on the DP World Tour in 2026 and has also applied to reinstate his membership on the PGA Tour as a past winner on the circuit. He is not eligible to play on the PGA Tour until August 2026 and will play in the FedEx Fall season events.

The American golfer can also earn a PGA Tour card through the Race to Dubai standings. With a win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, he jumped to second place in the standings, and if he maintains a ranking in the top 10 by the end of the season, he will earn the Tour card for the 2027 season.

LIV Golf releases statement after Patrick Reed leaves the circuit

LIV Golf shared a long message on its X (formerly Twitter) account after Patrick Reed left the circuit. In their statement, they said that they were “not able to come to terms” with him on a “contract extension.” They wrote:

“We were not able to come to terms with Patrick on a potential contract extension. We’re grateful for everything he contributed during his time on the 4Aces at LIV Golf and wish him the best.

“LIV has always been an advocate for player movement and recognizes that when golf settles into a new normal, players will not only have the right, but the opportunity to play golf when and where they want.”

Notably, not only Patrick Reed, but also five-time major winner Brooks Koepka returns to play on the PGA Tour through its new “returning member program.” He teed it up this week at the Farmers Insurance Open on Thursday. But he had a tough start with an opening round of 1-over 73.

Meanwhile, Patrick Reed is playing this week on the DP World Tour at the Bahrain Championship. He carded a round of 1-under 71 on Thursday, just six strokes behind the leader.
