Las Vegas Raiders coach Pete Carroll plays an important role in Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin’s life and is expected to have some sort of influence over his career choice this week.
Kiffin is expected to decide on his coaching future amid offers from LSU. The Ole Miss coach, who was hired by Carroll at USC, received a text from the veteran NFL coach on Thursday.
According to ESPN’s Marty Smith, Carroll wrote in the text:
“‘Call me anytime, Lane. I promised your father I would always take care you.'”

Kiffin said that he relies on Carroll and Nick Saban for advice after the death of his father.
“I miss my dad,” Kiffin said on Friday. “I really missed him this week. My two calls will be the closest to that for advice, what my dad would say to do on these things. That’ll be Coach Carroll and Coach Saban. Kind of wish when you have things to do in life, that your dad was there. But it is what it is.”
Raiders coach Pete Carroll “thankful” despite disastrous start to his coaching stint
Pete Carroll’s 15-year stint with the Seattle Seahawks ended in February after he joined the Las Vegas Raiders as their head coach. However, his first season with the team hasn’t turned out as expected, with the Raiders holding an abysmal 2-9 record.
Despite the disastrous start to his Raiders stint, Carroll is looking at the positive side of things. He praised the team for their work ethic and their camaraderie despite the results not going their way.
“I really have been very grateful for the way these guys have come to work every day, and we’ve asked them to act in a mode that brings the energy every day with really a positive kind of feeling behind everything that we’re doing and sharing it with your teammates and being a great teammate,” Carroll said.
“And they’ve done that, and unfortunately, it hasn’t shown up in the results of the games, but all the way till this morning, this day, these guys are in it, and they’re coming out to practice with an attitude that they want to try to get something done and work hard at it. These guys have been fantastic, so I’m very grateful for that.”
The Raiders will look to end their five-game losing streak when they face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
