Rory McIlroy opened up about the expanding TGL series. The Northern Irish golfer played in this week’s TGL event.

On Monday, his Boston Common GC played against Atlanta Drive GC. In the post-round press conference, McIlroy opened up about the TGL series. He compared it to international concerts.

“To replicate one of these facilities on the West Coast maybe, just to make the travel back and forth a little bit easier, but then if we could do it where we can say, yeah, bring it internationally or travel with it, however that looks,” McIlroy said.

“Obviously you have massive concerts that travel around the country and they can set things up. So maybe in time. Obviously we’re only into year two, and we’ll see how it goes. Obviously we’ve got the women’s league coming up later this year, so hopefully that goes well. Maybe if that’s Phase II, maybe Phase III is trying to build a facility elsewhere,” he added.

TGL is looking forward to expanding the circuit. The league kick-started last year with its inaugural season. Moreover, it also announced a women’s league earlier this year. The women’s league will feature the top-ranked LPGA Tour players.

Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common GC had a tough time in the simulators on Monday. They played against Atlanta Drive GC but struggled with their game and lost 5-2.

Before this, however, the team won their game against The Bay Golf Club 9-1. Last season, his team missed the playoffs, but this season, the team has been decent so far. McIlroy opened up about his team after the game on Monday and compared it to last season.

“I think compared to last year this has already been a success, getting our first couple of wins,” McIlroy said. “Obviously Michael has been a really good addition to the team. But yeah, we said to him walking off the green there, this is how we felt all last year, so welcome to your first defeat.

“But yeah, we still obviously control our own destiny, and hopefully, as I said, get the win tomorrow night and the match on Sunday is obviously a little easier,” he added.

Boston Common GC has so far won two games this season in the TGL. They played their first game against Los Angeles GC and won 7-5. In the second game, they defeated The Bay Golf Club 9-1.

Meanwhile, this season on the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy started his campaign at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he carded rounds of 68, 67, 72, and 64 and finished in the T14 position. He then tied for second place at the Genesis Invitational after playing rounds of 66, 65, 69, and 67.
