Russell Henley has nearly missed restarting his game at The Players 2026. The play on the PGA Tour was affected by the weather on Thursday, March 12. The play was suspended at 12:09 pm.
However, it resumed in 21 minutes, but Henley had no idea about it. He was later informed by his fellow PGA Tour player Ben Griffin that he had to restart in four minutes.
Russell Henley opened up about the incident in the post-round press conference on Thursday.
“I didn’t stay in place,’ Henley said. “I was beside the clubhouse, we ran in because I thought it was going to be like a tornado, it was raining really, really hard. When I went inside I was hitting the lunch table and Ben Griffin said, You have a restart in four minutes.”
Russell Henley completed his round on Thursday. However, the game was again stopped due to darkness. The play will resume with its first round on Friday at 8:50 am ET, while the second round will start at 7:40 am ET.
Russell Henley opens up about his performance at The Players
Russell Henley teed it up at The Players on Thursday on the tenth tee. He made a par followed by a birdie on the 11th. He then added a bogey on the 12th and then another bogey on the 14th.
He made two birdies on the front nine and three birdies on the back nine for a total of 4 under 68. He settled on a tie for sixth place after the Thursday round and talked about his performance in the post-round press conference.
“I’ll take 4-under par here any day,” Henley said. “I mean, I find this place visually intimidating, but I did feel like I did a good job of committing to my shots today. There’s a lot of gusty winds and changes of wind direction and rain, and so I felt like I was in a good place mentally and made some good decisions and executed pretty well.”
Before this, Russell Henley played the Arnold Palmer Invitational and tied for sixth place. He carded the four rounds of 70, 69, 71, and 68. This season on the PGA Tour, the American golfer was settled in T8 place at The American Express and T19 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
However, he struggled with his game at the Genesis Invitational. He carded two rounds of 76 and 68 and missed the cut in the event.
Meanwhile, after the Thursday round of The Players, Maverick McNealy took the lead in the game in a five-way tie with Austin Smotherman, Sahith Theegala, Sepp Straka, and Lee Hodges.
