It’s been a while since Russell Wilson last played for the Seattle Seahawks, where he became a superstar while leading the team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. Despite being away from the team for five years, Wilson still has a soft spot for his first NFL team.

The Seahawks won Super Bowl LX, 29-13, beating the New England Patriots in a game where the defense and the special teams dominated from start to finish. After they secured their second Vince Lombardi Trophy, Wilson sent a two-word message to celebrate his former team.

“Go Hawks! 🏆🏆” the New York Giants quarterback wrote.

Russell Wilson played 158 games with the Seahawks, recording 37,059 yards and 292 touchdowns with 87 interceptions from 2012 through 2021. The veteran then joined the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Giants, failing to find a footing and return to his best version.

He went 1-1 in the Super Bowl with the Seahawks, dominating the Broncos in Super Bowl 48 and losing to the Patriots in Super Bowl 49 in the very last play of the game.

Russell Wilson is responsible for the Seahawks’ Super Bowl win

Five years after he went his separate ways with the Seattle Seahawks, more people are noting that Wilson’s trade actually helped his first NFL team secure its second Super Bowl championship.

The Denver Broncos sent tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris and quarterback Drew Lock, but they also included two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a fifth-round choice.

One of those selections had a solid game against the Patriots. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who sacked Drake Maye in the first quarter and then hit the quarterback and forced a fumble, which the Patriots recovered.

Additionally, Seattle’ second-round pick in the 2023 draft, Derick Hall, also had a solid game. He recorded two sacks. Linebacker Boye Mafe, drafted in the first round of 2022, also played an important role in Super Bowl LX.

He finished Super Bowl LX with one tackle. Many said the Broncos won the trade, but the Seahawks are the ones with the Lombardi in their hands.
