
Scottie Scheffler has seconded Europe’s decision to retain Luke Donald as Ryder Cup captain for the third straight term. He insisted that if he were European, he would have done the same, given Donald’s successful record.
On Wednesday, March 4, Europe announced Luke Donald as the team’s Ryder Cup captain for yet another term. The English veteran will lead the team in quest of a third straight win next year in Ireland.
During the pre-event press conference of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Scottie Scheffler was asked about Donald’s retention as European Ryder Cup captain.
“I hadn’t seen anything on that,” he said. “But he’s had some pretty good results the last two Cups, and obviously I think we’ll be hoping to change that when we go over to Ireland next year. Obviously he’s had a lot of success and he’s pretty good at it, so if I was the European team I would probably try to be trying to convince him to come back as well.”

Earlier, Donald also expressed his feelings about captaining Europe at the Ryder Cup’s 100th anniversary.

In 2023, Luke Donald and co. thrashed the visitors by 16.5-11.5 in his first stint as captain. Last year, his team visited Bethpage Black in search of their first away win in thirteen years. The visitors dominated the hosts for the first two days and then played clutch on the final day, posting a 15-13 win over the USA for a successful title defense.

Scottie Scheffler will start the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at 10:20 a.m. ET alongside reigning champion Russell Henley on Thursday, March 5.
The World No. 1 golfer has been a two-time champion at Bay Hill and finished T4 in 2023. The star golfer has never finished outside of the top 15 in the event in all of his five starts.
Speaking of current form, the four-time major champion had a great start with a win at the American Express 2026. He followed it with T3 and T4 finishes in the next two events, but his consecutive top-ten streak ended with a T12 at the Genesis Invitational.
