Shedeur Sanders’ future with the Cleveland Browns might be in jeopardy. As the team prepares to begin a new chapter under coach Todd Monken, reports indicate that there may be some shake-up in the quarterback department.
On Monday’s episode of the “Up & Adams Show,” draft insider Todd McShay had some concerning updates involving Coach Prime’s son. He believes former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson could end up with the Browns in this year’s draft.
However, McShay said that he does not want Simpson to end up with the Browns.
“I’m a big Ty Simpson fan,” McShay said. “I’m already starting to hear, people are like, could he go as high as Cleveland? And I hope for Ty Simpson that he does not become a Cleveland Brown. They don’t have the protection, they don’t have the weapons.

“I’d love to see him with the Rams. Ty Simpson is going to somewhere in the first and it won’t shock me if it’s in the top-15.”
Ty Simpson is regarded as the second-best quarterback prospect behind 2025 Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza. He spent four seasons with the Crimson Tide, serving as a backup in the first three. The quarterback was named as the starter last season and helped the team make it to the Rose Bowl quarterfinal, where they lost to Indiana.
In four seasons, Simpson recorded 33 total touchdowns along with 3,948 yards. The Browns have the sixth overall pick in the first-round of this year’s draft. However, after drafting Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders last year, it is uncertain whether they will utilize their first-round pick on another quarterback acquisition.
Shedeur Sanders began his rookie campaign as the third-string option behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel. He was later promoted to backup duties while the ex-Oregon star was named QB1. In Week 11, Gabriel suffered a concussion, which resulted in Sanders taking over as the starter for the remainder of the season.
In eight games, Coach Prime’s son recorded 1,400 yards and seven TDs passing while the Browns finished with a 5-12 record. They decided to fire Kevin Stefanski and bring in Todd Monken as his replacement.

Jason Whitlock shares his thoughts on Shedeur Sanders vs. Deshaun Watson QB1 battle
Apart from Shedeur Sanders, the Browns will also reportedly have $230 million quarterback Deshaun Watson competing for the QB1 job. He missed the entire 2025 campaign after re-rupturing his right Achilles tendon, but is expected to make a comeback this year.
On Thursday, Jason Whitlock shared his thoughts on the quarterback battle between Coach Prime’s son and the three-time Pro Bowler.
“Todd Monken opened the door for a quarterback competition between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson yesterday. Even with all the baggage Watson brings, I think he would wipe the floor with Shedeur in a competition baseed off pure skill alone. No praise for Deshaun, Shedeur just is not that level of talent.”
Watson joined the Browns on a five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million deal in 2022. However, his performance has been below par because of multiple injuries. In three seasons, the quarterback has played in just 19 games and recorded 3,365 yards and 19 TDs passing.
