Joe Burrow had an underwhelming 2025 season, missing nine games due to injuries. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback will look to bounce back and lead his team to a deep postseason run in 2026. However, a former Super Bowl-winning quarterback used Burrow as an example to point out a concerning trend in QB longevity in the modern era.
Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner shared his analysis of weight transfer during the release, a detail he believes separates traditional pocket passers from the new generation. An X user asked Warner if Burrow pushes his weight forward or leans back.
“Forward – all his weight is in left leg at completion, then balances out and goes backwards! This is easy!” Warner tweeted on Saturday.

Warner points out that Burrow often finishes his throw with most of his weight loaded onto his lead (left) leg. According to the ex-SB champion, this creates a rigid finish that forces the quarterback to immediately hop or lean backward just to regain balance after the ball is gone.
For Warner, a perfect throw involves a balanced follow-through in which the weight is distributed so the quarterback can move in any direction immediately.

Bengals HC on Joe Burrow’s future in Cincinnati
Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor clarified his stance on quarterback Joe Burrow and his future with the franchise following the team’s disappointing 2025 campaign.
Burrow was limited to just eight appearances last season because of injuries, and the Bengals finished with a 6–11 record. Five of those wins came in games where Burrow started.
During an appearance on the “Firz & Whit” podcast on March 5, Taylor shut down any idea that the team would consider trading its star quarterback.
“He (Burrow) is his own person, and he doesn’t feel the need to be somebody else because of the platform or the role he’s in,” Taylor said. “He’s going to be true to himself. And you have to appreciate that love, that he’s our quarterback. Love working with him every single day. Wouldn’t trade him for anybody on planet Earth to come play quarterback for the Bengals.
The Bengals selected Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he became the face of the franchise. He led Cincinnati to the Super Bowl LVI in 2022, where they ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Rams.
Since that run, Cincinnati has struggled to find its footing, missing the playoffs in each of the last three seasons.
