NFL reporter Erin Andrews broke the internet with her viral faux fur coat that she wore during the San Francisco 49ers’ wild-card game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, according to her close friend and Fox Sports sportscaster Charissa Thompson, Andrews going viral for her coat was a total accident.

On Thursday, US Weekly released an exclusive interview with Thompson in which she shared an unknown backstory about Andrews’ viral coat. According to her, she had the same coat. However, due to some last-minute changes, she wore a totally different outfit for the Packers vs. Bears game.

“It was going to be freezing in Chicago, and I packed a couple different outfits. One of them was that jacket,” Thompson said. “I have that exact same jacket that Erin has. Normally we don’t talk about our outfits before. We’ll just end up on air, and I’m like, ‘Oh, I love that,’ and she says, ‘I love that,’ or whatever.”

The next day, the reporter was struggling to get the Eagles game on her phone when she started receiving dozens of messages in her group chat. It was her boyfriend’s texts, praising Andrews’ jacket.

“She’s wearing the jacket I was going to wear the day before,” Thompson said.

Charissa Thompson revealed how she took out the same jacket from her luggage, clicked a picture of herself in it, and sent it to Erin Andrews. The two had a good laugh about how coincidental it was that she missed out on wearing that jacket and Andrews wore the same one a day later.

“She’s like, ‘Only you and I would have the same jacket.’ I said to her, ‘I’m so glad I didn’t wear it,’” Thompson said.

Charissa Thompson shares how becoming a broadcaster was a childhood dream

From an early age, Charissa Thompson wanted to be a broadcaster. During an interview with The Seattle Times on Dec 11, Thompson reflected on this dream and recalled the TV personalities who inspired her to pursue a career in media.

“I wanted to be a broadcaster from as early as I can remember,” Thompson said. “I remember seeing Hannah Storm and Melissa Stark on TV and thinking, ‘I want to do that.’ I really didn’t have a Plan B.”

The day after Thompson revealed the backstory behind Erin Andrews’ faux fur coat, she received an honest review of her NFL show from Jason Whitlock.
