The Mount Rushmore of current active players featuring one LIV Golf star

Choosing the best four golfers of all time is always an incredibly difficult thing to do.

However, naming the current ‘Mount Rushmore of golf’ is perhaps even harder.

It’s a common question in golfing circles: Which players feature on your Mount Rushmore?

Mount Rushmore is a sculpture carved into a mountain face in Black Hills, South Dakota featuring U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

Who makes your Mount Rushmore of active golfers?

Any massive names missing out?

“I would say Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and the last one’s just so brutal to decide on. I love Gary Player. I love Phil Mickelson. But, I think I have to give it to Arnold Palmer. I mean, it’s real tough to keep that guy off the Mount Rushmore of golf.”

The colossal sculpture is now referenced regularly in sports, when debating the greatest players throughout history.

However, we’re going to do things slightly differently this time…

The Mount Rushmore of current active golfers

There have been some truly terrific golfers who’ve graced our television screens over the past few decades.

The likes of Gene Sarazen, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player feature on most people’s greatest of all time lists.

However, who are the top four golfers in history that are still actively playing?

Tiger Woods

While Tiger Woods is currently recovering from back surgery, he’s still an active PGA Tour member.

He obviously has to be on the list, with an incredible 82 PGA Tour wins to his name, including 15 major championships.

Phil Mickelson

The 55-year-old LIV golfer has compiled a stellar career, with 45 PGA Tour wins to his name.

Phil Mickelson has won six majors and he would have many, many more to his name if the man mentioned above was born in a different era!

Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy needs just one more win to reach 30 career victories on the PGA Tour. He has also racked up five major wins and already has one of the best Ryder Cup records of all time.

McIlroy will, of course, be looking to cement his legacy even further over the next decade and there’s every chance he will do just that.

Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant force in the professional game since 2022.

He has recorded 19 PGA Tour wins since February 2022 and has won four major championships. The scary thing for his rivals is that he doesn’t seem to be slowing down one little bit.

Why Scottie Scheffler could become the greatest of all time

There are obviously some very notable names from the above list including the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth.

Who’s THE MOST overrated golfer in the world?

Shane Lowry looks on during the second round of the U.S. OPEN at Oakmont Country Club, Jordan Spieth during the final round of the RBC Heritage 2025 at Harbour Town, Bryson DeChambeau on the 10th green during the second round of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Country Club, Justin Thomas dur…

However, it was simply impossible to leave any one of Woods, Mickelson, McIlroy or Scheffler out of the current-day golfing Mount Rushmore.

Aside from those who have already achieved everything in the game, Scheffler is the man who stands out to me.

If he wins one major every two years on average for the next two decades, he will one short of Woods’ haul of 15.

If he manages to win three PGA Tour events on average every year during that period as well, he’ll be just three short of Tiger’s record-equalling haul of 82.

While Scheffler winning 14 majors and 79 PGA Tour events by the time he’s 49 will be far from easy, and he will need to remain injury-free to have any chance whatsoever of doing it, his unbelievable quality means that it’s a genuine possibility.
