The respective situations of Brooks Koepka and Vijay Singh have caused much debate in the world of professional golf recently.
Koepka is somewhat of a free agent now, so to speak, after he officially left LIV Golf in December.
However, Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour certainly won’t be straightforward.
There will be plenty of hoops that the 35-year-old needs to jump through before he’s allowed back on the PGA Tour.
Who is more deserving of PGA Tour starts in 2026?
Koepka or Vijay Singh…
Many agree with the PGA Tour’s stance on players potentially returning from LIV.
However, the Vijay Singh news that emerged on Wednesday has opened a can of worms really.
Fans who were sitting on the fence regarding the Koepka debate have now been left with more questions than answers…
The PGA Tour’s Brooks Koepka and Vijay Singh conundrum that needs solving
Golf fans the world over were shocked on Wednesday when it was announced that Vijay Singh would be using his career money-list exemption to take up the offer of a PGA Tour card for the 2026 season.
At 62, Singh is quite obviously well past his prime.
The big Fijian was a sensational player in his day with 34 PGA Tour wins to his name, including three major championships.
However, it’s fair to suggest that he will struggle to make more than just a few cuts on the PGA Tour this season.
Should Singh really be taking up a full playing card from a young player with potential?
Matt Kuchar was handed the same opportunity as Singh was and he turned it down.
It’s actually fair to say that Koepka is more deserving than Singh of a PGA Tour card in 2026. Or is he?
Which side of the moral divide do you stand on?
Brooks Koepka more deserving of a PGA Tour card than Vijay Singh?
Koepka has five major wins to his name and is obviously a massive name in the sport.
However, allowing him to return to the PGA Tour consequence-free would completely obliterate the meritocratic foundations from which the Tour has been built.
Vijay Singh is making his PGA Tour comeback! 🤯
Who should be next?
There is actually a case to be made for neither Koepka or Singh being deserving of a PGA Tour card in 2026.
However, despite the obvious moral issues, there is no doubt that Koepka would be more competitive than Singh on the PGA Tour if they were to both play 20 events, for example.
It’s a really difficult question to answer.
Singh’s exemption has caused huge controversy, and the same will happen if Koepka returns to the PGA Tour anytime soon.
It is definitely an issue that the PGA Tour need to address. A one-year ban starting now for Koepka would be a fair punishment.
However, allowing Singh to play a full season at the age of 62 just seems like somewhat of an own goal by the PGA Tour.
While they have got that decision wrong, it will be vitally important for them not to do the same regarding Koepka.
