Fernando Mendoza has decided not to throw at this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, and someone is unhappy at the misinformation being spread about it.

Shortly after the Indiana Hoosiers quarterback made his decision, a certain Adam Ferrell quoted former Super Bowl-winning safety Ruan Clark as saying:

“Well we saw what happened when a black man did that last year. Let’s see what happens when a white man does it.”

Ryan Clark offered his thoughts on Fernando Mendoza not throwing in this years combine: “Well we saw what happened when a black man did that last year. Let’s see what happens when a white man does it.”

Clark immediately denied making those remarks:

“Bro!! It’s crazy that folks can just make things up. This is so dang fake and false!! Just want to piss people off I see and lessen someone’s voice! I did not say this!! … Is this dude a real human? Adam Ferrell can’t be a real person just lying!”

Bro!! It’s crazy that folks can just make things up. This is so dang fake and false!! Just want to piss people off I see and lessen someone’s voice! I did not say this!! Also Mendoza isn’t… NEVER MIND! Is this dude a real human? Adam Ferrell can’t be a real person just lying!

“Adam Ferrell” would respond with a two-post thread:

Instead of the Combine, Mendoza will throw at Indiana’s Pro Day, which will feature his teammates like Omar Cooper Jr. and Riley Nowakowski. He had alluded to this decision when speaking on Pat McAfee’s eponymous show during Super Bowl week:

“At the combine, you’re throwing to different receivers. It’s a whole different thing. And I want to make sure I give my guys the best chance. I want to… be there with the boys.”

At least one other quarterback will be throwing at the Combine, however: Alabama’s Ty Simpson.

Former Raiders GM gets candid on franchise’s chances of drafting Fernando Mendoza

Most draft analysts have Fernando Mendoza going to the Las Vegas Raiders first overall, and not without good reason: The franchise has struggled to find a successor to Derek Carr ever since he was released after 2022.

Jimmy Garoppolo led the league in interceptions in the first half of the 2023 season before being benched for a then-rookie Aidan O’Connell, then released. Gardner Minshew went from a surprise Pro Bowler with the Indianapolis Colts to struggling alongside O’Connell and being released as well. Finally, Geno Smith regressed from his days in Seattle and led the league in picks.

Thus, nabbing Mendoza is imperative for the Silver and Black, as former general manager Tom Telesco put it on Thursday’s episode of “The Schrager Hour”:

“If I’m there, you can’t offer me enough. I’m taking Mendoza, fully knowing that we need a lot of other help him that we’re gonna have to build on the fly.”

The 2026 NFL draft will be held from April 23 to 25 in Pittsburgh.
