Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL second-season debut match had lesser viewership than last year’s. According to reports, the second season had an average viewership of 646,000 viewers on ABC, which is 273,000 less than last year.

TGL’s second season began on Sunday, December 28, with Atlanta Drive GC taking on New York GC. In the opening match, the defending champion registered a thrilling 6-4 win against NYG.

On Friday, January 2, Josh A. Carpenter of Sports Business Journal shared the latest viewership data. The Sunday afternoon start of TGL 2 had fewer views than the Tuesday night (9-11 pm) start of the first season, which had garnered 919,000 average viewership.

The Sunday match had a peak viewership of 735,000, but a clash with the NFL definitely hurt the numbers. Last year, TGL had a season average of 498,000 viewership.

Speaking of recent golf events, the PNC Championship had an average viewership of 560,000, while the Grant Thornton Invitational had 450,000 viewership on NBC. On the other hand, the World Champions Cup garnered 305,000 average viewership on ABC.
