Tom Brady’s former teammate, Aqib Talib, still has his doubts about Patriots quarterback Drake Maye helping his team to a Super Bowl appearance this season.
On Friday’s episode of “The Arena: Gridiron,” the retired cornerback highlighted how Drake Maye is giving it his all on the field for the Patriots. However, he is unsure if he can hold his weight against other star quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
“I think they got a shot,” Talib said (Timestamp-2:50). “I think they got a real legit shot cause of the schedule, because of the way they play on offense, the way they play on defense. Drake Maye, he’s playing his a** off man.
“They definitely have a shot. And Foxborough, it’s so tough to play there. But they definitely have a shot. … But, like you said Skip, I just don’t know if they could knock off the top dogs man. I don’t know if they could knock off the top dogs even if they home. I love what they doing, they look like they get better every week. … I just can’t pick them to go to the Super Bowl.”

This season, Maye has helped the New England Patriots to a 9-2 record after their 27-14 victory over the Jets in Week 11. They currently sit atop the AFC East with an eight-game winning streak under their belt.
The second-year quarterback has tallied 2,836 yards and 20 TDs passing while rushing for two touchdowns in 11 games. During his rookie debut last season, the Patriots finished with a 4-13 record. Jerod Mayo was fired as the team’s coach and Mike Vrabel was brought in as his replacement.
Drake Maye opens up about his bond with Patriots WR Stefon Diggs
Both Maye and Diggs had a decent game against the Jets on Thursday. In the post-game press conference, the quarterback was questioned about his trust-building process with the veteran wide receiver.
Drake Maye responded by revealing that he had known Diggs for a long time.
“No, that trust was built up probably when I was in middle school when he was playing in the league, it was long ago,” Maye said. “You know, guys like him and Hunter and Mack- you trust those guys for what they’ve done in this league.”The Patriots will be on the road to face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12 at 1 p.m. ET. Can Maye and his team continue to build on their winning momentum?
